The Malibu Mini-X looks like slick little Yak. Does anyone have one? Any good or bad opinions? I am getting a Yak this week. I was also thinking of a Cobra Explorer, or Navigator.
Thanks,
Dave

the best kayaks for diving are big and stable with lots of storage. mirage drives are very nice for the long distances you may need to travel.

I dive off a Mini X as well as a X Factor. Both have their applications. The Mini X is a slick little yak, like you said. I like it alot. I keep it bare bones and it's an easy 40lb suitcase or sholder carry. This is a big plus when hauling it to places a larger yak can't get to. I Normally only use it when paddling a couple miles in either direction. Though I went 8 miles no problem, I wasn't even using a seat, as it's a deep seat well and I was again keeping it simple. It actually pushes along pretty well, since it's so small. Tracking is a little squirrelly as to be expected but not that bad. For a small yak it's very stable and has a large load capacity.
I Strap fins, mask etc in a duffle in the tankwell, weightbelt usually in the center hatch. I can also fit a 55" gun in the center hatch if I take the shaft out. Though I usually strap it on the deck. I Didn't get the #2 and #3 Hatches as I think they're not all that functional and wanted to keep the weight down. Real pleasure to just throw in the truck compared to a 14'-15' yak. Also good to just throw into a boat.
Overall, great purchase, real real happy with it, fun little guy who thinks he's a bigger boat in many ways.
However, if the ocean turned snotty on me, I would not want to be in the mini-x. That's where It would be no problem for the Xfactor or other big yak. If I was looking at yaks today I would look at the Trident. http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/angler_editions/prowler_trident_15_angler.html
