Went diving with Gene yesterday and had a great time. Water was really nice and the weather in the early evening dive was great. There were lots of fish around and not many fishermen. The best part was stopping by my friend's dock and cleaning the fish with his kids who were catching sea horses with their crab traps! I can't remember ever seeing them in South Jersey in all my years of snorkeling and catching things with nets and what not.

Nice fish! I love that last seahorse pic. I haven't seen one underwater yet. I specifically went looking for one at a spot near me where divers say you can find them once in awhile but couldn't find one. When I was going to school in south Jersey we used to do otter trawls and we would get a bunch of them mixed in with the seaweed. I thought it was the coolest thing.

When I was young we used to get them in crab traps all the time. They are hard to spot in the water as they are so well adapted to the seaweed and such. You need time to really pick them out so scuba is probably best.
Nice fish there.I think triggers are about as good an eating fish as there is.

Saw one off of the south shore of Long Island last year. It was tiny and mixed in with a bunch of sea weed. It is always a treat to see somehting you don't expect.

That's odd, they are ALL over the algae and seagrasses near the mangroves on the bayside. The dwarf seahorses LOVE the sargassum like algae that grows in the shallows...but you have to look DAMN hard to find them. I actually had one that had babies while I was passing it around in a container to show the students I was teaching...now THAT was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
