I have taken the Spearfishing Seminar with my local dive shop, and I've even held a spear gun to make sure I can load it. I am an experienced Master Diver with 100+ dives looking for people who will stear me in the correct direction of becoming a true spearfishing woman.... I would love to tag along and not get in the way (I promise) of a spearfishing trip. I reside in Tampa, but travel to the Jupiter area alot during Lobster season. I own all my gear and dive Nitrox. I am looking at investing in a gun, but would like the experience of being in the water to make sure I can do it. Any suggestions or even invites?

Kasey:

Emerald Dive Charters in Jupiter is extremely spearfishing friendly. People new to spearfishing are always welcome, even if you are brand new. You are welcome to come and dive and observe while talking with very experienced spearfishing people.

Contact the owner, Randy, through his website and come on over to join us.

One of my Divemasters is a woman who just started spearing last year. She dives with Randy and I every chance she gets and she is getting better and better at bringing home dinner.

Another option closer to home would be to jump on one of the local spearfishing charters. There are several to choose from, but personally I frequent one that is not really advertised or promoted on this board, but find it to be a great deal! It's called Blue Water Explorers and they run 3 tank and 4 tank trips dedicated to spearfishing out of Cortez. They also usually have a couple of extra guns available for use, so that part might work good for you as well. I have the exact dates on their upcomming trips, so if you want them just shoot me a PM. Here is the link to thier site....

Also you might want to start a thread in the gulfcoast section.....people are always looking for others to split costs, etc.

Nothing beats just getting in the water and practicing what you learned in your seminar.....that's how I started. If your like most on this board, you'll only have to pull that trigger a couple of times and you'll be hooked! Good Luck!

Thank you for the responses. I am actually doing a trip with Mac's on Monday morning to get wet and experienced at shooting. I'll let you know how it goes.

My wife and I own a house and Boat in Port Charlotte. We were just down there and should be back in Sept and /or Nov. I usually post messages for divers a week or 2 before we get down there. You are welcome to dive with us. We usually go out of Gaspirilla Pass or Venice.
