update on day 1 from world cup invitational.

Great day,
21 divers, 14 fish hit the beach. Great conditions, flat seas, clear water, LOTS of fish.
Mark Healey first place today with 4 nice fish. Yellowtail and amberjack shot at 96 feet, yeah that right, 96 feet. This guy likes DEEP water. I got to tell ya, at 85 its getting pretty dark, and at 95 you pretty much got to see the fish either at your level, or above you.
GR Tarr is in second, with 4 nice fish, I in third with a good wahoo and decent amber, and John Perretti is in 4th with a smokin 65lb wahoo.

Heres some pics, will update later.

Healey is unreal,
but the games not over yet.
Day off, GR, Brian and Mark went to theyre pargo spot, and destroyed shafts, landed fish, lost fish, generally had a great time.
I went south with a few others, shot a nice rooster, some amarillo pargo, dogtooth, cabrilla, the good eating stuff.

The way it stands now, Mark, Mike Mcguire, GR, and me in top 4 order.

The dragon gun seems not to scare fish, until the shaft hits them !

Tomorrow is day 3 of comp, so will update after that.

John shot that with a 4 band cannon, not sure who made it, but the hole came from him using that to hold the fish up for pics.

Great thread Dennis, thanks! It kills me that just a few of those Wahoo can't make it up here to Loreto. Lot's of big bull-head Papa Dorado though... water here is full of em'. Buena suerte a todos.

Keep us up to date on the final results. I am beside myself that I got screwed out of making it down but at least my scrub of a team mate Healey was able to whip some ass. Congrats to everyone. Team Red Tide and the Haole did a good job of keeping the carp hunters well inland it sounds like!
Mark is definitely one of the best guys in the sport and glad he could make it happen at a great tournament and location. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

I don;t have the final points with me, should have them soon, but it went
#1 Mark Healey by a substantial edge
#2 GR Tarr by .07 points
#3 Dennis Haussler

I don;'t feel bad loosing to either of these guys, as they were diving deep, and doing a good job of it.
7/10 of a pound behind GR is pretty good by me.

I will post write up and standings as soon as I get a chance, got to get ready for nationals in RI.

Congrats to Mark, GR, and all the rest of the divers, for a great meet, and wonderful time.

Once again Dennis Haussler, Pelaj, and 20Fathoms put on a great meet... We had 21 divers total compete this year. 18 or 21 divers put points on the board. This year was an extremely fishy year. We had Wahoo, Dorado, Marlin, Yellow Tail, Amber Jack, Yellow Fin Tuna, Milk Fish, Toro, Bonita, Skip Jack, and Rooster Fish all turned in. Vis was incredible with some spots having over 80 foot. The weather couldn't have been better with almost no wind and flat seas most of the time. Everyone enjoyed their boat rides to all their favorite hunting spots. Tim Hatler of Palapas Ventana along with his staff made everyone feel welcome and had things running smoothly each and every day. At the end of each day we all enjoyed making it back to the beach to have our catch quickly weighted and put on ice. Most all of the fish caught over the week was sold to help raise money to improve the local schools facialities as well as their bus. I believe something like 1000 bucks was raised.

Personally I have to say that each year this tournament has gotten better and better. With sponsors like Pelaj, Riffe, Imersion, Pelgic, HammerHead,Wong,Rob Allen, and many others. Each and every competitor left with an amazing gift. How ever its not about the prizes we won, but rather the time we had. I really enjoyed hearing stories about goat hunting in Australia to the creation of ultimate fighting. Making new friends and creating some memories that will last a life time. I am already looking forward to next years meet. Here are some photos from this past week. I am sure Dennis will post some more but these are from my camera...

Thanks Dennis
