Grant, here are two big snappers taken by Chad Palan in the Local Palm Beach area that helped give him three trophies - Biggest snapper, Best freediver and Overall Tournament Champion. Many more photos will be posted soon.

Congratulations Chad - a freediving submarine fish-killing machine! :toast:

Here's a few more from the boat. The cubera was shy of 86 pounds before gutting it.

Awesome fish!

What did the cubera have to eat lately?

Both the cubera and mutton weren't gutted at the dock because Chad wanted to get these weighed on the certified scale at the weigh-in (especially since the mutton looked like a possible new record). After getting these weighed ungutted first with Tony's permission, Chad gutted them in the cooler when I wasn't looking.

I think Chad said he saw a human skeletal hand wearing a teamsters ring with the inscription "J. Hoffa"

:)

WOW!! An 85 LB Cubera free diving during a tournament??? It just doesn't get a lot sweeter than that. Congrats on the win Chad! Looking forward to hearing the details........

I couldn't believe the fish when I saw it. I swore to Michelle it was taken on one of those "technical dives" because I didn't believe a fish that large would be in anything shallower than 200 feet. I was so amazed when I heard Chad Shot it.

No wonder you're the go to guy. Congratulations, because you truly earned it !
I hope I can shoot a fish 1/4th that size one day.

Jim, sorry to hear about your gun trouble, at least the boat didn't sink ! :thumps:

Jason, we had a few other issues going and just couldn't fit it in.....looked like a lot of fun...would have liked to have made it! If Tony does another 3 packer next year, I'll be sure and schedule things out better!

Congrats on a hugely successful tournament Tony, spearfishing wins out big time with great events like this!

It was indeed a great event. Turnout was huge (packed hall), prizes were plentiful, food was great and fish were thick. Alot of money was raised for FRA @ highly-addictive Ring Toss (graciously setup and ran by Florida Freedivers)! Congratulations to all the winners.

Very fun & well organized...air-condition venue was the "iceing on the cake"!!

(For all you guys who hadn't heard I was shooting Saturday...a camera...and I couldn't talk the bride & groom into being weighed in!!)

Congrats Chad on a great showing...you kicked butt and wowed all, especially the fish seekers who came to see what the shindig was all about. It was really cool to walk around shooting images and listening to all the on lookers comments...as spearos we really do amazing things underwater when you look at it from the "otherside", just we've become so used to it, it's normal for us.

The guy who placed #22, "Dan Lindley", is that the guy from Jacksonville area who runs the "offshore dive charters"? If so, it looks like he was involved in an aggressive incident the same day of the tournament in the Jax area?

Details here:

The guy from the JAX incident sounds like the same guy who was discussed in an earlier thread on this forum, here:

Chad and Jose are a team to deal with. I am glad they made your tourny this year. And I am sure they will make the Keys SBO. You can bet I will be there.
