Howdy all,
I'm new to freediving and spearfishing, I live by PV and wanted to know if any of you "old pro's" had any suggestions on where a newbie like me can gain some expierence with freediving and spearfishing in the Palos Verdes area.
Thanks so much to all who reply.
Happy Hunting,
Andy:)

For your first few times out, give Malaga Cove a try. It's an easy (by PV standards) walk from the parking lot to the water, and stays fairly shallow.

HBDiver, is there much fish there? If so, what type?

I'm not an "old pro" or anything, but I do know a lot about PV and have practically memorized the bottom atr most of the good spots ion PV.

Malaga cove is a good begginners spot but you might want to try Flat rock or Lunada bay.

THey both are good for halibut in the sand channels, calico bass, and if you head out to the kelp, nice white seabass.

If anyone wants to head out to PV once the conditions get good, just PM me in i'll givew you my cell #.

The big (40+ lb)female seabass should be in soon so I'll be hitting up my secret kelp beds. HEHE!!

Let me know if you wanna go!!!!

hey B, its the sask.... i am in Weezyana right now with julie. we just got here... the weather is in the low 70's... unusual for this time of the year i guess. it looks like we may only get out 1 or 2 days max if we are lucky. we are told the big fish are in but the swells are too big to venture out. anyways, julie and i are looking forward to hitting up your secret spots for da'whiteys when we get back. we need to make up for that wasted day last week.

talk with ya later.

Hey guys, I'm looking to meet up with some other spearfishers in the area. I have dove PV once and I can't remember the name of the plac (it was a long walk down a cliff/hill) south of the international school. The vis was bad so I didn't get a chance to shoot anything. I usually shoot malibu/Pt Dume or in Laguna Beach when I visit my brother. I'd love to meet up and do some spearing with you guys. Send me a PM when you next go out if I can tag along.

Prodigal

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. My computer at work wasn't letting me post a reply for some reason. Essentially, I was going to say what Brandon said, but he beat me to it. I've heard reports of the occasional YT cruising by Malaga, but can't independently confirm that...

Hey Sask,
I hope you guys slaughter some huge ones down there!!!
BTW, i went out to PV today, 12-20 ft vis As soon as I hit the outside of the bed a 30 lb wsb swam right up to me. I held off on the shot, hoping some bigger ones might show up. Needless to say, they never did, but I saw that single fish like 12 times, i think it was trying to school up with me. It would sty next to me for like 15 minutes then leave and come back. It was pretty wierd, i never have experienced that before. Anyways, I learned that WSB can be lonely too!!

I'm still on the hunt for the 70 lber, so if anybody sees one, be sure to tell me where. HEHEHE

hey b, you know that you can still take 3 WSB right? the limit doesn't go to 1 until March 1st and it runs 90 days until June 1st... its gives those big ones a chance to do their breeding during that time. I know your waiting for that 70 +, but it wouldn't hurt to have one or two 30lbrs on the stringer while your looking/waiting for it!!!

We are leaving for Venice today. It looks like Sunday will be our only day to get out (if we are lucky) and that will be just in the morning.

We hit Bourbon street last night.. there were alot of people out and i saw a few "flashers" getting beads... nothing like Southern California... thats for sure.... two words for you ladies of Louisiana .... "Breast Implants" !!!!

Then we hit up Harrahs Casino. I won a couple hundy on the BlackJack table.... that just apid for ticket to come back in March!!!

I'll send you an update when we get back from Venice on Monday.

Late, Sask

PS- lets hit up PV then La Jolla when we get back!

I'll let the 30 lb babies grow up!!! In 5 more years, they might swim in front of me when they are a world record. HAHHAHAWHo knows????

Ohh ya, we are gonna slay 'em this year, with PV_spearo and sask diving the same spot, there will be no more fish left.

Good luck and be sure to bring me home some 'hoo steaks when you get your 100lber!!!
