SOme very nice fish! :thumps: That red fish in post #6 is a big cig flag around here. They get rather large as well. Very nice Green Job Fish, nice dogs, and dolphin. Care to share some words to fit some of these photos?

Hey Guys, sorry for the late reply - time zones...

Anyway, the trip was awesome, 6 strait days of spearo heaven. Luckily we didn't have to camp up in the tree house, although it was a pretty impressive structure. It's still the dead of Kiwi winter, so having a getaway like this was just so great. Warm water, warm breezes, warm people, and tons of fish. Can't ask for much more.

It was a dogtooth tuna that wrapped me up on the reef - one of three that I lost to sharks.

I noticed you were from New Zealand... I am planning a trip there and I was wondering when you thought the best time for spearfishing was there in NZ? Also, any tips on places to charter spearfishing trips? Thanks and awesome pics from Vanauatu. I am jealous.

Kolt, looks like you guys did bloody well in Vanu!
Put a report on fishing.net.nz?

Finbreaker,
Feb-March-April is the best time for NZ.
Spearfishing is a very small sport in NZ so there are few (if any) spearfishing charters, but people are often looking for divers to fill seats on private boats. You could get a group together via emails and forums etc and charter a scuba boat though

Is that Matts (Matt888) handle I see?

kjflyfish
08-15-2008, 01:30 AM
Hey Herby! Good to see you on SB. I'll def. put up a report. Kane is back now from the second trip, so I've got a bit more to report on.

Finbreaker, like Herby said, there aren't a whole lot of spearfishing specific charters, but there are club trips and dive shop organized trips, so your best bet is to get in touch with clubs like the Bluefins, Axemen, and shops like Wild Blue and Ocean Hunter.

Justin, yep that's the first production run of Matt's handle - works like a charm. The new ones are even better.

I'm trying to sell all my snowboard stuff! Had enough of lift lines. I'm going 100% aquatic for my kicks.
