I am interested in droppin some traps from a yak prior to spearin. Does anyone do this? If so I am interested in collapsible traps. Do any of you use collapsibles? Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Nice! I will check those Promars out. I think I saw them in Cabelas also. I was thinking I would paddle out and drop one and then drop another about 30 feet off the other. I could then anchor the kayak and spear some dinner and then go back after a few hours and pull them. How long do you let them soak?
Cheers,

Styric,
The season for dungeness is closed right now but you can still go after red and rock crab.
Josh from Neptonics (http://neptonicsystems.com) had plenty of the Promar TR102's in stock, which is what I use for crabbing from a yak. He also has the floats to go with it.
Here is a good link I used for info when I first started.

I usually let them soak for a couple of hours, best if set out over night.
Depending on where I am at I crab from 25-75' of water.

Hey Tino,
Thanks for the info. I am just getting ready for crabbin. Still have to buy the traps and all. Also, I will be contacting someone about membership with the Tritons. Who should I call? What is the process for acceptance? It looked like someone needed to dive with me and give me an ok.
By the way I am a responsible newbie that cares about following the rules. I am currently working on a more sophisticated mapping system for the CA coastline that will show protected areas, waypoints, etc. I will probably start with Monterey as that is where I will dive mostly. I am dieing to get in the water.
Cheers!
