The meet on the 23rd of May is for the MA Freedivers Club. I don't think it is an open match. Please excuse my ignorance.

Huh? Never competed...My ignorance. ....
So no Scuba, Only free diving. Ok I'll give it a go....
But where do we sign up? Where is the event? What does it cost and what are the rules and what are we chasing?

A newbie looking to ask salty questions about his pictures --what gun he is shooting, suit and any recommendations?
Me and a buddie are looking to get hooked up. He is located at nags Head and has a charter boating business. We are able to see fish when out fishing towers and objects near the top waters? The way we see it if the fish won't bight-myswell shoot them right?
I am in colder waters and need to know more about suites?

Are you planning to freedive or scuba? It makes a big difference in the gear you use.

The gun I use when on SCUBA is a JBL 38 special Northwest XHD.
I have modified the gun by switching to a 17/64 shaft with a tri point and flopper, its just the sharpened shaft with no screw on tip. I also switched from 3 5/8 rubbers to 3 9/16 rubbers. This summer I might go to one or two 3/4 to see how it shoots. I also use mono shooting line.
These mods realy make the gun wake up, befor you could watch the shaft drop as you fired it. Now it moves so fast that you cant see it move and its much more accureat.
This gun is great for black fish sea bass fluke and porgies. It also has the ability to hit a striped bass if it gets close enough. Its a nice all around gun for the wreck and reef diving I do when on SCUBA.
Now for freediving ..... My current gun is a 115 sporasub viper, this summer I might switch out the head for a rob allen and use 1 20mm band. If I get the oppertunity to go off shore to blue water Ill add a secound rubber and a 7.5 mm shaft with a drop point.
For suits when SCUBA I have a DUI trilam drysuit, thats all I ever use when on SCUBA. For Freediving I use a Sporasub 5mil viper suit.

As I look back it looks like I only have two bands on the gun which means that one probly broke when I was down on the dive. The gun works well with two bands when shooting close.
What type of gun you get depends on how often your going to use it and for what type of diving / fish your going after. Tell us more......
