My wife, my 3 years old son and I was thinking of saving up for a Hawaiian vacation next year, we have to compromise that I wanted my diving days and she wanted her enjoyment with the family as well. I wanted to get kumu, ulua and some bluewater hunting as well and what's the best month to hunt for them? I have a very good friend named John Iwaniec but unsure where he is living now, I would like to see an Island that offer all these plus to see him as well. I could use your help!

If you get lucky you can usually get a kumu and an ulua in the same house. Most of the reef fish are good all year around, the prized uku is good during winter months, onos had a strong run this spring. There are a lot of places were you can do reef and blue water in the same spot, if you can dive deep. Im sure Sterling or somebody from the HSD forums can find John for you and im sure he could put you on some good fish.

I hope I dont come of rude by suggesting this but Paul (thats his screen name too) is a deaf diver on the HSD forums living in Oahu, I think hes from Cali too.

I met Ray briefly when I went to Florida for a cousin's wedding. I moved to Hawaii right when he moved back to San Diego so we never got to dive together.

Ray, how about it? :cool::beer:

In all honesty, Oahu is considered the worst island for spearfishing - lots of pressure here. I'm sure I could put you on some Ukus and Uluas regardless. I seem to have good luck finding them despite being relatively new to this sport, and Hawaii.

i don't know how paul does it but he manages to find all the good fish. go on hawaiiskindiver.com/community and go to the experiences forum. look for anything started by paul. his sn is paul too. he's got some amazing stories and catches!
