I absolutely hate winter. It's cold windy and the sun is out for only 8 hrs a day. Every year I have to remind myself that regularly scheduled diveing won't happen again until the spring. For now I'll just have to watch the footage that I got when it was nice out there.

I was suppose to go out with D4B on Wednsday and it wasn't even the weather that keep us at port, it was the no vis factor. If I don't get out soon I'm going to organize the First Annual Seffner Shootout. My front yard, three categories. Largest stringer of cats, largest overall cat and most acuratly shot cat.

I hear your dive light works wonders after dark. It's about as much fun as coon hunting but it's a little more satisfying. I think I'll use my line shaft for the silencing factor. :D

fishkilla

chumming will be allowed but no powerheads. half of the skill of cat shooting lies in successful capture and stringing. bring your own garbage for chumming. i'm working on a special brew myself. i won' t reveal all the ingredients but it does involve menhaden oil and three weeks of constant indoor boiling. yeah the house might smell a little ripe but that's what it takes to get that 26lb taby in the yard. i've been eyeing that stray cat for weeks now.

Will SpearOnes next seminar include feline freeshaft placement?
I am thinking you could get the local chinese restraunt to sponsor the event.

and on the cat subject...

fishkilla

of course you lead a taby if it's moving. the most difficult shot is when they are staring right at you. this is where patients comes it. you want to wait for that neck shot. aiming for vital organs works but they will often run a while. just last week i had a nice one go straight up a tree after a shot just below the lungs. you don't want to spend valuable time fishing a feline out of a tree while your buddies are stringing up cat # 4 and 5. as far as shorts there are none. cats are like Aj's the smaller they are the better they taste. i've found if you can get a few small ones you can easily put them all on one shaft perfect for the grill. just add some green pepper, onion and seasoning and you have an awesome shishkabob. i'm going to check with the humain society and see if we can get some kind of funding for riding the streets of strays.

Ok, about the chinese eating cats thing has me really offended. My mom is chinese and we owned a restuarant. Never did we eat a cat. We were better than that. We cooked and served dogs. The meat isn't as stringy.

you could get an edge on the market if you act quickly. maybe something with a prong type tip. i think really the key to success though is chumming and shot placement.

Some things really need fur. Letting that cat live might be the worst punishment. Jeez, is that a real picture? I did see a young man that looked similar on Duval Street a couple of years ago. Sudded collar and all. Oh, yeah, I don't recommend using a powerhead on a cat. I "tested" a .357 Beco on a heavy piece of conveyor belt rubber in my back yard once. It was very loud. Very, very, loud.

never caught a cat messing with my garbage but when all the nieghbors were on my ass about my dog getting in their garbage I got up early one morning and caught a great dane from down the street ( his owner let him out at about 4am and put him up at 445am ) in my neighbors garbage .... big tan dog... took a can of floresant orange marking paint and wrote garbage eater on the side of the dog then tied him to my nieghbors mail box with all the garbage laying around. Never saw the dog again. I cured my mutt by laying on the top of the house with my crossman bb gun when only his ass was sticking out of the garbage can I let him have it with 10 pumps in the gun. That was an instant cure to his addiction.

HAHAHAHAHA..... DOODE THAT'S AWESOME... i want a giant dog to start eating my garbage now... i'm running out of cats to shoot. i'm going to have to move the slot limit up and the take limit down until i can get a sustainable population. i'm really considering taking it up with the legislation to get the cat longliners out of the seffner valrico area and move them past the dover/plant city line. it's just really frustraiting to work hard all day for one or two cats when the longliners are commin home with over a thousand pounds of tabbys.

Slip,

Did a Tom Cat whip your ass when you were just a kid or something? :)

I was out the other night in some of my favorite spots and filled my stringer quickly with anywhere from 5 to 7 pounders. I began my trip back to the house and notice something move behind a big oak tree in the neighbor's yard. I quickly switched to stalk mode and slipped around the other side of the tree and laid on my stomach. I got chills when I saw this monster of a tom lumber around the tree just out of range. My first thought was that he had to go at least 25 pounds. I have never seen one even close to the size of this monster. He was slowly angling away just out of range so in an effort to get a decent shot, I instictively uttered a "meeeow". The Tom quickly turned his head and returned the call. So I closed my eyes and whispered "meoooooW", this was all it took. He quickly darted towards me and as soon as he smelled he me quartered away and stopped. I stoned the giant right there.

The next thing that happened, I will never forget. As I was attempting to string the giant tom, I felt as though I was being watched. I turned around and there were 2 Rottweillers circling around behind me. They had to be close to 130 pounds a piece. I was on my knees and very vulnerable. Both were growling and acting very aggresively. I quickly pressed the stringer against my chest and stood up very slowly. As I was standing I screwed my .223 PH onto the tip of my shaft and began a slow backwards walk back to the house. I was about 20 yards from the garage when the biggest of the beasts made his move towards my stringer so I quickly jabbed him in the face. As I was doing this the other K-9 came by and took the tail off of one of the smaller cats on the stringer. He nearly took my arm off, I was very lucky. I knew that with blood in his mouth he would come back for more. I made my decision then to take him out. As soon as he started back I placed perfect shot with the PH and stoned him. The other beast lost interest and faded into the black. I made it back safely. Thank God!

Be careful out there guys. And BTW, the Tom went 26.5 pounds.
