Hello all,

Last year i went to the Coral sea in hopes to shoot a 'hopefully' record tuna but unfortunatly they were nowhere to be found or seen.. but i managed landing an aaalmost Australian Wahoo record... some might have seen it on here..

Anyways, this year im ready to hit it again... im basically after some record size tuna, hopefully be lucky enough to see a world record pass infront of my shaft.. and take a shot at it. So..

Where do u guys reccon i should be lookin at going? New Zealand or South Africa or...?

What time of the year would be best?

What charters go out for tuna?

Would an 8mm spear be sufficient enuff or i must go with a 10mm?

Id appreciate all info i could get.. thanx in advance.

SA for yellowfin, NZ for bluefin. Season for bluefin down here is August/September - I'm not sure how the spearos got on this year, didn't hear much news but the fishos got a few. The bluefin are seriously big fish, they've been taken using 4 band guns with 10mm shafts but that would be the bare minimum. Most seem to be using custom guns with 6+ rubbers.

Couple of recent reports:

wow Aug-Sept? So im pretty much late for them now:confused:
I was thinking it would be later on in the year around November.
Is that the same for the yellowfins in SA?

Thanx Mullins

Zane, if your serious about NZ bluefins, get in touch with Kane Grundy www.extremefreedom.co.nz. He's just returned from a trip down south for bluefins. I haven't talked to him yet, but I'm sure he's got some stories. Basically, the weather is really iffy and you have to plan for several days at the pub waiting for a window to head offshore. Then it's locating the hoki trawlers and jumping in. It's more of a logistical challenge than anything.
