So i decided to get out for an hour or so today for my first dive since I got back to NJ.
the forecast wasnt lookin so hot but, i had nothing better to do so i went. I got there allittle after hightide to a ripping current. jumped in anyway and drifted with the current untill it finally died a bit and then i was able to just swim around up and down the inlet a bit.
VIZ!! was about 4 to 8 foot, It wasnt the best but defiinatly huntable by far, dirtier on top but opened up nice when you got down. Temp wasnt bad at all for me and i just got back form almost a year in the keys sooo....
saw a lot of nice tog, ended up taking one towards the begining of the dive(it went about 17'' and change) only to see a monster like 5 minutes later! what ev im good with a smaller one, ill still have a full meal tonight.

Oh I also saw a spotfin butterfly fish about 5 feet down juts swimming around some rocks ...very cool.

dive safe!

cal.

sorry n o pics...i think every one knows what a 17 inch blackfish looks like.
when i bag a nice striper then there will be picts.

for spearing in NJ a gun 100cm or under would be ideal. I am currently using a cressi comanche 90 and im happy with it. before that i was using an omer caymen 100 which i loved(but its lost now). and before that i was using a 48'' biller and that was also a good gun for NJ.
In terms of suites, I have been wearing a 3.5mm and i ma comfortable, I know people who get by in a 3mm year round. depends on how you deal with the cold.
A polespear could be a great weapon for blackfish becasue they are pretty stupid and can get pretty close to em.
viz is usually shotty man. gota be checkin the weather and planning dives duriing high tides and what not.
