Does anyone know the regulations for spearfishing in Mississippi Sound around the Gulf Islands like East or West Ship Island, Cat Island, Horn Island? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Vis pretty much sucks north of the islands, but oysters are coonable by the braille method if the reef is open.

Well MS doesnt haev any specific spearing rules. Just what ever the DMR regulations are. On a nice day you can get some flounder or some oysters. There a re a few spots. BUt it us usually like diving in chocolate milk... Run about 5 miles off Petite Bois and hit the gas wells if you dont wanna go very far. I have taken everythgin from flounder, snapper, ling, grouper right there. only about 50-60 ft depending o which one you hit. I have seen 0 vis but then again I have been standing on bottom and see the boat above me. Usually about 5-15 ft vis. Lots of trigger fish also. yumm:D

There are fish out from Petit Bois around the platforms but the close ones are fished and dove hard. If anyone needs an extra diver or fisherman this summer for that area shoot me an email. I work out here and dive and fish the area.

there are some spots just south of Ship and Horn Island that are good this time of year. Look at a good chart and get online and look for the mississippi gulf coast fishing banks...they will have hundreds of numbers to structures they have put on the bottom. Some to check out for the huge sheepshead that run in March are the ship Island Barges A and B as well as the paddle wheeler and the shallow and deep liberty ships. Most of these are in 35-45 ft of water and have lots of fish until snapper season gets kicked up and we head out farther. Good Luck

Yep, it's only 90' over here but starts dropping off pretty good once you head east. I guess you may go to the Jumbo Barge or go on out towards MP 265.

I didn't even get to dive last year but hopefully will find someone to dive with this year. I fished out here alot and did good but didn't get to spearfish. A buddy of mine is suppose to be getting certified so I'll have someone to dive with. It's really nice out here today.
