Oooops...I did it again!!

Went out to my usual spot last night (the ocean...and this is the location where i got the fish in case anyone asks later) on a solo run. Julie wasn't feeling so well and decided to stay home. I got in the water around 1100pm.. the conditions were decent, a big bright full moon, the viz was ok... a murky 7 feet. I cruised around spotting the usual..smelt, surf perch, and the occasional stingray. About 2 hours into the dive i spotted the head and eyes of this Butt buried in the sand. I had to do a double take becaue the surge was pushing me around and stirring up the bottom... i was trying to line up a good shot and then a big set rolls in and pushes me off the spot. I spent the next several minutes cursing and searching the bottom with my light until i found the lil guy still buried motionless in the sand. I took the shot before the next set came in and scored a nice hit right through the gill plate. I let the Butt go nuts and then settle back down before i poked him a couple times in the head with my Riffe Knife. By the way, does anybody know where in the hell your supposed "brain" these things.... i jabbed him twice where i figured the brain was and he was still going nuts an hour later. I was using Julie's little Comp 0 with a 2 barbed head. Thing works like a champ for this kind of hunting. Well, enough of the rambling on, heres the goods. It weighed 16 lbs 4 oz and i never got a length.

Nice modesty...lil guy, that fish is a pig! Great fish and great story. What kind of depth was he sitting in? From your story, it does not sound like it was that deep.

To brain a Halibut?

Go to the outside edge w/ the external eye closest to it estimate
about where the brain should be on a fish of the size you've shot and insert the knife through the "Edge" where the white meets the brown, fleshie part and you should hit the sweet spot.
I hope the explanation works for everyone. If not, let me know
and I'll try to explain it again.
