Hey Guy's and Girl's

I'm looking for a two person kayak that I will use on random day trips.

Any suggestions?

I honestly don't even know where to start. I plan to buy used and the cheaper the better.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

I've got an Ocean Kayak Malibu Two which can be a tandem or a single depending on how you set it up. It's a little bit wide too which slows things down a bit but the stability is great. Had it for about 8 years and never had a problem with it.

That's the same one I use. I've had it for about 8 years too. I don't know what current models are like, but mine would be alot nicer if it had the large hatch opening to stow gear and guns in.

Here's the Malibu 2 XL. Not bad.http://www.oceankayak.com/images/kayaks/tandems/malibu_two_xl.jpg

The M2XL is a great tandem. The overlapping footwells and single seat position puts it on top in my opinion.

Thank you guy's so much for your input. I know nothing about Kayaks (makes, brands, etc) so this was a big help. As far as buying these kayaks from you, I'm not sure if I'll be able to since I'm in South Florida. It would be best for me to buy local but thank you so much for offering. If I don't find anything I will let you know.

Do you have pictures of what your set up is like?

I agree on the hatches. I have 2 8" hatches but they're only good for storing smaller stuff. As for the guns you can attach gun/rod holders to the sides. Talk to Bob (clavinr), he made up some really easy to install gun holders and they're only like $12 including the hardware.

Check out his website too, www.bcpowerbands.com. He custom makes all his stuff.

Hobie Kayak with Mirage drive is my choice.
Nobody yak/freedive/spearfishes more in Miami than me that I know of.
Def not the cheapest, but for me freediving/spearfishing it is the best out there. All my freedive/spearfish gear except gun fits down inside. That way if the yak rolls you lose no gear. [mine has never rolled, even in 4ft seas]. Entering and exiting surf with gear exposed can get expensive.
Hobie makes several yak carts to roll your yak to and from the car to water. I modified my cart for 100lbs through soft Miami beach sand.
Hobie Mirage Drive is easy and fast and leaves both hands free to work camera, ff, GPS, phone etc while going 5mph.
Reply or PM if I can help further.

hau is right, hobies are awesome kayaks. I do kayak fishing tours and I need to get a hobie for myself. Idon't get me wrong. I love my prowler 13, but with a pedal system from hobie, you get less tired, u haul ass and they are amazing. Biggest draw back... they are more expensive than any other kayaks out there. Check out craigs list, and the florida sportsmans forums. you can get great deals on used yaks from the area. or if you want, send me a pm with your info, I can get you great deals on brand new ocean kayaks. Good luck!

I just bought a Hobie Kona, paddle kayak. It's a tandem. I absolutely love it! Hobie is a little more expensive but it comes with all of the bells and whistles. Check it out.

It comes with water bottles, 2 fiberglass paddles, 2 seats with compartments on back, dry bag, tackle box, two hatches, etcs.

Un saludo, Errol

I have Wilderness System Tarpon 130t.
This is tandem kayak with 2 small hatches (6”).
I’m 6’ 205lb and my son 6.2’ 203lb + 2 w. belts with 24lb each, 6 abs and fish.
It is working fine for us.
It is very stable and supports both of us.

honestly, the best advice I can give you is to rent and test paddle as many kayaks as you can before buying one. every kayak is different and every person is different for every kayak. weight, height, width, hull slap. like I said, test paddle a many different models as you can

Hey Guy's, thanks for all the advice/info and recommendations for kayaks. My girlfriend apparently was going to get me one for Christmas, but finally broke down and told me that she was trying to get one for me, but hasn't been able to find one in a range she can afford. :( I love her just for trying. Either way, soon enough.

Thanks again.

That's pretty cool. Tell her to keep checking craigslist. A couple months ago I got a Scupper Pro along with a carbon fiber paddle for 1/3 what it should have cost me. There are some sweet deals out there you just have to find them. Good luck.
