OK so Im in the planning stages here..........I got a boat and captian willing to make a run out to deep water for a shot at Mahi's and what ever we might come across. It would be a day trip and we could take 10 freedivers easly. Any one interested or have any experience freediving blue water off the hamptons/montauk?

Same here...never done it, interested in dates, cost, etc...

All of my freediving has been from shore or a kayak close to shore...

You can count me in. Would love to dive with you guys. I have been hunting the blue waters off of LI for a few years now. If you catch it right there is big Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo to be had. Let me know the details and I am there!!!

Ok this looks like a good start.

Vin, Im a noob to blue water hunting so your not alone.

Wabo it sounds like you have made trips like this? Any stories to tell , what type of gear did you use, what did you shoot?

I wont get or set a firm date untill the season gets going so we have the best chance at shooting fish but it will most likey be mid July. I am aiming at concentrating on Mahi because I think thats more of a sure thing. But, as we get closer to the time the reports from the hook and line guys will tell us what were in store for.

This is the site for the boat Diveboat (http://www.jeanmariedivecharters.com/)

The cost will depend on how manny we get I would like 8 to 10 and that should keep the cost down to around $100 for the day.

As the season starts I will get more info and keep everyone posted.

FYI if you want to read a really good book about freediving read Freedive by terry Mass. His accompanying video is also very good.

I love to scuba dive, and we should bring a couple of rigs for safety reasons, but freediving is such a rush.

I am mainly a brown water hunter. I haven't gotten out after tuna. Most of my diving is from shore.

Clav- I am still in- though need to pin down cost and weekend ASAP- Also - still don't know squat about free diving - but as long as we don't have any purists on board I'd be inclined to bring mey gear and give it a crack- but make the dives on air as well. Anyway - I suppose the crew can decide.....

Let me know,

Vin

Good to bring a scuba rig and extra tank along...you never know, when you need it...you really neeed it.

I would be glad to go freediving with you...I have been doing some this year, getting built up for the Advanced freediving course...I'm a novice, but I have had some great pointers from some other freedivers (Chauggie/Mass Freedivers)

I want to train up for that bluewater trip. I need dates etc...

When are you going back to Westport? I have Monday and Tues Morning off. (Shift work)
