I'll be there as well and look forward to meeting everyone. I think the plan was to grab some dinner Tuesday night in the vicinity and everyone is of course welcomed to join.

Let's plan on meeting for dinner Tuesday after the first day. Does any one know a good place close by? We need a place large enough for us to discuss in private.

3 minutes away is Kansas City BBQ of Top Gun movie fame (the bar scene).

May not be the quietest place but it's Tuesday night and pretty convenient (and may be of some interest to movie buffs).

I'm not able to attend the meeting, but will be listening in via the internet stream. I'd be game for meeting up with everyone for dinner if it is an open invite...just name the time and location if everyone's welcome.

If you cannot attend the meeting personally,
the least you can do is write letters showing diver support as well as voicing your concerns.
I cannot be there but I will make sure to write a letter as well as inspire others (family included) to write their own.:thumps:

Okay, I called Kansas City BBQ and they have either a private room or a private section for about 10-18 people (private room not guaranteed but they will do their best for privacy).

I pointed out that it's a pseudo-legal discussion so privacy is important and put it under my business name (IP Group) since my staff will follow up and make sure the space is ready for us next week. Tuesday January 13th at 5:30PM.

Terry: Does this seem okay?

If anyone has any better venue, please let Terry or I know. It's not in stone but it's the one I know and have followed up on.

Thanks Terry for motivating people to attend this.

Joe.

Joe, thanks again for arranging the meeting place.

I feel we all had a very productive and informative discussion and I am looking forward to future meetings where more specific plans will take place. It was great to meet some new faces and finally meet some key players in all of this. Plus, it was just a great time hanging out at a sleazy BBQ joint w/ over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders dangling from the ceiling fans.

Paul - thanks for keeping me awake during the discussions!

I took away many lessons from today's meeting... some of them I still need to digest and think about for a while... but here is the one take home message that I see is the most important, so I'll just quote verbatim:

If I could impress upon people to remember one thing, what we are asking for is for EVERYONE to have access to the entire ocean. Personal enjoyment, livelyhoods, and food gathering are very simple things, and we want to see them allowed for everyone. Not just for peripherial users, and not just for those who can afford to buy their access. We would like to see access for EVERYONE who utilizes the ocean in its' many different ways.

Please think of the big picture here..........:cowboy:

Terry and Eric did the heavy lifting.

They were there discussing MLPA issues with divers after a long long meeting day and they have the next day to go to.

All thanks go to those and others (and you too Kelsey for taking day off work, making the long long drive down and showing up).

Today's meeting was very informative. You could see some interesting things starting to happen. There will be a time and place to get in depth about the particulars, and I was happy to get the support from those who showed up. Today, we had very little representation.:wtf: I must say, there were a lot more various different interested parties there today.:whistle:
I am not knocking anyone for not going. You feel you are too late in the game to be fully involved. You feel your voice won't be heard. You got ass-reamed by the process last time, and you don't want to waste your time all over again. You feel you are too young, and inexperienced to be an integral part of the process.:rules:
I humbly suggest to you that none of these things are true, unless you let them become true. Emotion is a driving factor in much of our lives. ( It's....winter....) and it can be frustrating to think that you are outnumbered, and outgunned. Thankfully, much of this process is guided by a combination of factors-science, user input, stakeholder input, economic and enviromental factors are weighed. Also, there is the NAVY. They have some say in the process too. One thing I can tell you is, though you may not put up the best defense all alone by yourself, you stand to lose a lot if you don't get behind your representatives, and do your best.

You have a lot to lose. An enviro-nazi has nothing to lose. Why do I say this?? They don't use the ocean to near its' potential, they derive nothing from it other than intristic value. So really, they have nothing to lose swinging for the fences. If they strike out 100%, they still have the same old ocean to go look at, and doodle around with some seals, hopefully to get bit and suffer rabies. If you lose your fishing access, you are screwed. You become an instant part of the problem, buying commercially caught fish, instead of an integrated part of the ecosystem as a whole, when you catch your own food.

I have a LOT of points to go over with you, some direction we can definitely push the program, and at this time, I am ready to go with both barrels loaded. This is a different fight than last time. We have learned a LOT. In a few days, there will be an appropriate way in which we will be discussing all this. I need some PM's from a few people, namely the group who was there Tuesday to start. Joe, Volker, Mike, Kelsea, Rhyne, Alex, I will be PM'ing you tonight with some discussion points. And we will move from there.
