Heading down to the keys this weekend for some long overdue slayin' of species of fish which make the reef areas their humble abode. Can any of you locals break down the 411 on what is going on in what depth etc, etc.?? Last time around we put the hurtin' on the groupers and muttons on the deeper reef edges and wrecks.

What's up fellas?? The water can't possibly be so cold that no one has been doing any shooting lately. Hook a brother up:D

The Keys are like a hundred plus miles long; so you need to be a little more specific. The wind has been blowing good for the past three weeks, so unless you find the gulfstream pushing, in the vis may be poor. But you can still find fish off the deep edge of the reef.

Going to be in Long Key. Thanks for the info. I saw in your post that you guys had shot some grouper and mutton that I ran into a few months ago.

Oh those were your fish, sorry! You bringing your lovely wife? It is supposed to blow on saturday (she may not like the three to six foot seas), but you may be able to go out sunday. Friday or Monday may be the best bet. Isn't that how it always works.

Yeah, did they already have some nicks across their backs? Yes, my lovely wife is going to be doing some spearing as well and she's pretty cool with big seas. She just called me from out of town and told me not to forget her gun. I was looking at that forecast and it looks a little crappy, but hopefully the big 'ole cat we'll be diving off of can still get us back and forth in the mess:cool:

If you need more ballast let me know.

PM me your number and I'll give you a call when I figure out what the ballast situation is:D

The plan is to stay in Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow night. Drive down Saturday morning and do a couple of dives. Followed by some Sunday diving. I need to see how many people are going from down there but it would be great to hook up and do some shooting. Also, I'd love to see that homegrown gun of yours:cool:

was off long key/indian key wednesday, had 50' of vis on the reef. and the water was nice and warm (for march).

the wind has shifted since then, and i am sure it stirred stuff up.

if you need some company during the week, i can get some time off work. would love to go out and kill some fish. i've got a couple numbers for a serious ledge with nice structure in 80'.

and sorry to tell you my big mutton had no scares...

We are just down for the weekend. I don't know yet how much room we wil have on the boat, but Brian gave me his number and I will call him later after I find out. If anything maybe you guys could hook up and we could take two boats out.

No worries on the mutton...I got one of my own as well:D

The trip was a success. Rough conditions Saturday which laid down pretty good for Sunday. Bagged a few nice blacks, a nice mutton and a hand full of hogs. Vis was pretty good at about 40-50' both days. No sharks, no injuries, no lost gear, no boat problems, no marine patrol and no gunnel hunches:cool:
