How about some advise? What's the best material to make a target to practice with. I want to use it in a pool, and not damage the pool or my spear shaft.
Any ideas, pictures, etc?
Thanks,
rusty
I think that might be a bad idea. All you have to do is miss the target, and you WILL damage the pool.
Besides, unless it's a very large pool, I don't see how it will be worth much as practice.

Spear One was working on some sort of system like you're talking about. He was going to do something like sticking a rubber ball on the end of the spear. I'm not sure how it would work exactly, but he might.
If you can't get something on the end of the spear, don't bother shooting in a pool. You'll mess up the pool walls no matter how hard you try not to.

Oh, I can get it on the end of the spear (a little vis. helps), I just figured additional practice can't hurt.
The location does not have to be a "pool", I can jump in the canal just as easily, but the vis. usually sucks. I'm wondering what to use for the target that will "hold" the spear. Perhaps a milk jug filled with sand, tied to a float?
The idea is more to find out just how much the spear will drop from where it is aimed, e.g. at 10' or 15'.
Thanks for the input.

Rusty: I have a pool that is 42' Long. You figure your arm is appox. 3 feet and the gun is 4 feet. If you leave a 4 foot safety before the other side, then that gives you appox a 30' shot. I dont think I have ever had to shoot anything that far before. When I first got my gun I practiced in the pool. I took a 1/2 gallon milk jug and tied mono to it and put a diving weight on at the end of the mono and set it on the bottom in the deep end. Make sure your first shot is lower on the jug and work your way up. That way you can make several shots on the jug before it will not hold air anymore. Use a line on your shaft and make sure it wont be able to hit the far side. I had no problems doing it this way in the pool. Makes good practice because it shows the subtle drop that shaft makes over greater distances. Good Luck :)
