big fish is a tough tournament to shoot. but maybe i'll get lucky.

My advise is to do what Sheri says!! make a dive plan, shoot the biggest fish in every catagory you can, this is a point tounament. Start one day targeting reef species and the next blue water , or a combi of both depending on conditions, the trick is to place in as many catagories as possible , thats how you win! Good Luck everyone cant wait to see you all again!

i just never seem to find those scoring fish on the day of the tournament :(


i think it was last year that i went out 2 weekends before the tourny, and shot a hog and snapper that would have placed very high, if not 1st place.

but when i do it for the tournament....nothing but 20lb grouper....

and when there are 10+ grouper all over 40lbs....a couple 20lbers doesn't do much.

but it IS fun....and the weighin is half the enjoyment....as is watching norman juggle 2 Rum & Cokes, a microphone and prizes...:thumps:

jess feels the same way. she knows she has a small chance of competing against the guys (and the tortugas) to make it worth the money. but a woman's category would probably sway her.

Yes Jeff, Lynn and Jess were both vocal about that at the first KWO. That was Lynn's first question when someone from our club asked if I/we were shooting it, last week.

Easy does it everyone, there is a prize and trophy for the top female diver this year, allthough there isnt a seperate womens division, this has always been an open tournament , ment for everyone to have some fun, an excuse to get out on the water and hunt for some fish, i would love to have a womens division, scuba, freedive, senior, left handed, and so on but i just cant afford it! trophys, prizes, time, advertizing, space and everything in this tournament costs big bucks, which mostly i pay for out of my pocket. the entry fee has been the same for years now, and im trying to keep it affordable, but ,if you would like to donate about 1400 bucks to the cause ill be happy to add an entire womens division with three places in three catagories, or if about 20 to 25 women enter before march 16 ill add it!

At last year's tourney I, too, expressed a desire to have a women's division. If you did, I think you might have more women enter as I was told that I was the only woman to actually weigh in last year, but of course, I understand the cost/funding limitations.... Nice to hear you'll have a trophy though!! Thanks for your effort!

I am hoping to compete again this year! (And while I love them, I hope the Coast Guard boys won't be responsible for making sure I get to the weigh-in like last year!!)

you can sign up if your 12 or older, but youll need to be with a parent or guardian.

There is a rule change to #3 of tournament rules and regulations, Julie from dive wise noted the confusion of the distance contestants must stay away from eachother in the tournament. our rule says 150 feet and no closer without permission, this will be changed to coinside with florida law of 300 ft, so there is no confusion!

I Freedive off of Cudjoe every Summer (with the boss) and would love to participate in this tourney as a Freediver, if anyone needs an extra. I am boat-less, but I have experience Freediving, especially around the reefs and would pay my share of gas and expenses. I work for a spear tip and pole spear company and can furnish some gear to the team.

OK, I've got my camo suit, my spear gun, polespear, extra bands, tips, float, tag line, fins, weight belt, mask, snorkel, knife, dive anchor, stringer, dive flag, and a cooler. The only thing I don't have is a boat. Is there anyone who would be willing to cut a deal with me to let me on their boat as a Freediver? I really don't want to miss the tourney. I carry my own, and will definately help with prep, expenses, and clean up.
