I've been getting the itch more and more to dive the Oregon coast here lately and I've been sniffing around a bit more, but my biggest obstacle now is that most of my gear is for southern California based diving (I could squeak by on it but it wouldn't by comfy). So my question is pretty basic, what thickness would you recommend for a freediving wetsuit up here? I'm probably not going to tank it as much since it's pretty expensive to justify so I was thinking that I could forgo the 7 mil option...

I have an Oceanos 5 mil (now full of holes so I'd have to replace it, which is why I'm asking before I get a new one) that I used year round in San Diego where the water temps are high 50's/low 60's and I felt fine, and looking at the temps for Oregon, it seems like the water temperature change isn't ridiculously drastic as long as I keep it to summer diving mostly.

So is it reasonable to go with a 5 mil here?

No. It is unreasonable. If you are buying a new suit that is for use up here you should definitely go with a 7mil.

I live just south of the Cal-Oregon border. I use a 7mil farmer john year round. That is what you should get in a high quality neoprene freedive suit. The water up here is pretty much 50 year round. You might as well be comfortable.

If you are looking for a dive buddy, you should PM big island boy. I believe he is up your way, just moved there, and may want to dive.

Clear, concise, and without any room for interpretation, thanks I appreciate it looks like it's a 7 mil.
