Just tossing an idea out there for consideration/comments.
We are hunters. We do use guns. The NRA is a pretty damn big organization, and all "cold dead fingers" jokes aside, they are one of the few groups that has stood up against anti hunting/anti gun groups and won.
Maybe asking them to help represent or fight for us in access issues, fishing (underwater hunting) rights issues, etc could proove helpful....
Just an idea. Anybody care to comment?

The NRA is more of a Pro Second Ammendment group than a hunters rights group.
You could try contacting them, but I doubt it is an area they will want to expend resources on as they have a lot on their plate with the big "O" and his minions in control.

Likewise, affiliating with Access Fund would be a strong political statement. The AF has done superb at preserving crags and land for climbers intrest groups.
Access is Access, whether on land or oceanfront.
I am a long time NRA member. I wrote them 4 or 5 months ago regarding this issue and got some lame email to contact local fishing groups.:(

I am an NRA Life member and have been for over 20 years, I don't expect them to get involved with fishing issues.
The NRA is not a Hunting group, they are a Pro Second Ammendment group.

But we can learn a lot from the NRA. Until hunters/fishermen get together and form our own NRA, the eco groups will pick us off here and there until nothing's left. Once an area is closed, it's not coming back.
I echo Michael's sentiment. Human access is human access.
I see the trend accelerating exponentially, especially under Obama.
A better organization may be Safari Club International. They are a pro-hunting advocacy group. Check it out:
http://www.scifirstforhunters.org/
The SCI Mission Statement
Safari Club International is the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide
May also want to look at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership:
http://www.trcp.org/
"The TRCP is a 501c3 non-profit corporation that works to preserve the traditions of hunting and fishing."
