From other threads, it appears there is useful data in the records of spearfishing tournaments. Maybe we should be looking at using this data to our full advantage?

With spearfishing's long history in California, this data provides a valuable opportunity for strengthening our position in the MPA process and future management actions.

Does anyone know who holds the data from Southern California spearfishing tournaments? Is it held by individual clubs? Sanctioning bodies? Individuals?

If anyone reading this has access to data of this sort, or knows who does, please let me know. I have some ideas for analyzing and presenting this data in ways that maximize its usefulness.

Thanks,
Chip

Chip,
Are you looking for Southern California data, or would any California spearfishing comp data do?

I am pretty sure I can get access to the CenCal fish stats.

While the data may be useful, the activity is controversial and may not be well received. Maybe we should stick with consumptive diving as our primary activity.

I believe that some of the SAT scientists have expressed interest in spearfishing comp data, as it is one of the best time series of data sets available to them.
