Congratulations to the winners! You definitely earned it this year diving in awful visibility.

Here's our team "Wong Spearguns", (formerly Team Zeagle), Chad Carney, Sheri Daye & Ed Walker. Unfortunately Ed's 40 lbs cobia doesn't count.

Low points, but a huge effort to get them.

Lets hope next year is a lot bettter diving!

Thanks again to everyone who ran the tournament, you did a great job!

P.S. I think this tournament has out-grown the Bayport ramp with it's wonderful amenities... (Few parking places, $110 parking tickets, biting bugs, lousy channel, tight boat ramp, no restaurants or banquet room.)
Wouldn't it be much better going out of Tarpon Springs, like the Nationals a few years ago?

Chad- minor error- Team Rabitech- Rolando Veloso was their observer. Cameron Kirkconnell was their third diver.

By the way, I met Rolando Veloso breifly, seemed like a real nice guy.

John,

Oops, I didn't catch that one...it came right off the team sheet.
I fixed it.

Great job with the tournament buddy!

Congratulations to all the top finishers you all earned every point having to endure the almost extreme conditions other than the 2-4' seas which would have made it the worst. No competitor should feel bad about themselves after yesterdays test, it was a very harsh day out there. It was great finally meeting a few of you whom have been nothing more than a screen name (no offense John) to place a face to. We should all try to get another event together for the falltime as I think I overheard someone else talking about organizing. Hope to see all again next year, it can only get better. And untill then lets try to get out a lot more together. Thanks again to Dave Shelton and all who supported him, great job Dave. It was a lot of fun.

A big thanks also goes out to the great job done by the volunteers. Numerous FSDA members ran a great cookout, and the weighin ran flawlessly thanks to Dan McMahon (Headhunter), assisted by his sidekick Kenny Lacasse (Kmoose) and Jason Norcross of Headhunter Spearfishing.

Thanks also to Spearboard who helped publicize the tournament and through which numerous volunteers including observers were found. It is not easy to find a bunch of people who love diving like we do but are willing to take a day off to help run the show.

Great Tournament, but I can't say it was the best day of diving. I was pretty much a crapshoot, as none of the scouting amounted to much. I was positively worn out afterwards. I only missed 1-2 shots, but it sucks to know just one of them would have won it!

Special thanks to Rolando Veloso from our team. He made it all happen for us. Even though he was as good a diver- or better- than everyone else there, he still was gracious enough to act as an observer for our team. He and Jorge ended up really being awesome guys, and I look forward to diving with them both much more in the future.

Someday, I will tell you all what it is like to stalk and kill a state champion triggerfish. Just the thought of landing that monster gets my juices flowing. Until then, I remind you all everyday of who the triggerfish master is with my new avatar.

Congratulations to all who speared at least one fish. After diving those waters the previous day, I was sure there would be several divers without a fish on their stringers. The stuff inside 30' was virtually undivable. It cleared up somewhat in the deeper stuff, but not a whole lot.

For the record, yes I was part of Team Rabitech and I'm biased to say the least. Mad props to the three team members. These guys probably made over 300 dives between them in very challenging circumstances and were able to land a whole lot of fish. Many thanks to Blake Gaylord for being a class act, an awesome host and solid diver to boot.

It was great meeting a few of the Tampa guys in Particular John Schmidt and Ritchie Zacker.

Great Tournament, however, that marina was a quagmire to say the least. I agree that other options should be considered in the future. Also, those burgers were great! I forgot how many I had.

Third Place Team Rabitech (From L to R) Cam Kirkconnell, Mrs. Palan (Observer), Jorge Pelegrin, and Capt. Blake Gaylord.

Congratulations!

Chad, how long is that Rabitech gun Ed won?

Its a 120cm APEX carbon. Sweet gun. Dead accurate and light as all in the water.
