Hey for anyone with a Garmin GPS, can multiple software programs be loaded or are yopu stuck with one at a time? i.e., can you have BOTH the city AND the marine loaded?

Thanks.

Depends on the amount of memory you have, I am pretty sure.

well, this is hearsay, but i have one at work, and the fastenal rep who brought it over said that you can download maps off the internet and load them, or buy the memory cards with the maps on them... so i would think you could probably do one of each... but my company is too cheap to buy the maps, so i guess ill never know for sure....

Sven,
He's right, if you have the memory you can load multiple maps in.
It should come with some mapping already depending on what unit you have.

Yes on multiple, I have a 276c with city maps and blue chart on a single chip. You can also buy the seperate chips with the city and Blue charts on them and just change the chips for the different water or city trips.:thumps:

It depends largely on the type of GPS you are using. Is it a handheld? and if so what model. The 60 CSX has a removable SD card that can allow you to use, literally, as many different SD cards loaded with as many different maps as you want. For example, I have the entire state of California on topo on one card and the surrounding state's (Nev., Ariz., Org. plus Mt. and Uth.) on another card. When I go to those other states I just change the cards out.

As the others have stated, how big is the memory on your gps. If it's a fixed memory then you may be able to get all the maps in you want depending on memory size and how many maps you want in. Map detail is another factor as well.

If it's different mapping PROGRAMS you are interested in using at the same time.... I'm not too familiar. Not sure if you can use different mapping programs on the same unit. I'd say stick with one system that offers both marine and land. I'm sure Garmin provides both. Purchasing software 3rd part will allow you to take info from your GPS to the computer, but I don't think it will let you take info from your computer to your GPS. You might be stuck with what Garmin provides. I could easily be wrong, wouldn't be the first time:rolleyes:
