ok...i'm getting confused as to WHO and WHEN everyone is coming to the keys.
seems like i've read or had a dozen people tell me they are coming to the keys the beginning of May...
can i get a role call?
my offer to host a BBQ is still open, as well as a willingness to go shooting and share some numbers.

Denny and Loretta's schedule:
Wed, 5/12 through Sat night, 5/15 at the Royal Hawaiian Boatel, vaca cut.
What days can you shoot? Th, Fr, Sat?
As I mentioned, Sat night will be spent packing/loading the boat. Must be in Key Largo early Sunday (8AM) to take some people out for the day.
Wed will probably be a hazy day for me as I will be towing the boat down Tuesday night, about a seven to eight hour drive, arriving early Wed.

Tommy and I will be down there tomorrow afternoon - Key Largo area and will be there til Friday morning the 14th. We've got another scuba-diving couple staying with us til Tuesday the 11th, but no plans specifically where/what we'll be diving.
We don't have a boat, so will be diving on cattleboats or with Steve (MobileDiver) most likely.
Think Steve is coming up from Key West on Sunday the 9th or somewhere thereabouts.

All,
My boat is still broke ARRRGHHH! I am going to visit my folks Sat-Mon & then will be trying to get it going. Some friends are currently in Key Colony Beach with a 23 ft Grady - may be a spot or two on that. Hope to use my boat for as many folks as possible if it gets fixed in time. Otherwise will split a charter/gas/whatever during the coming week. Want to dive with Nikki & Tommy & again with Keez & Keys. Oh BTW, I am ALWAYS available to help eat BBQ. (I am nothing if not a team player.)
Take care,
Steve

After hurricane George, I redid the paneling in the No Name Pub. It took the wait staff two days to get all the money off the old walls. They stopped counting @5,000 bills. You can't even tell there is new T1-11 behind all the old and new money stapled everywhere. You could get more hitting that place than a bank.

I'll be at Big Pine key Fishing Lodge with my family 5/14-21. Wouldn't mind diving with a few of the guys that know the area. I can always return the favor off the west coast.

I'm bagging it. Sorry, all. The wave height forecast tells me that I should stay home and save the $$ for a five day stretch of calmer water. Seas 6-9, E winds 20-25 knots. Nah, my back can't take that pounding. :(
I'll be in Key Largo Sunday for the Council meeting.

Loretta is just about in tears. I am bummed. But not as bummed as I'd be sitting in my motel room or getting the crap beat out of me in the waves.

We went out today too...Alligator something or other off of Islamorada. Seas were supposed to be 4' to 6' but swell was OK and it was fairly tolerable compared to what we were expecting! Vis not so good, maybe 20' at 90' and MUCH less shallower. Lots of particulates......
All in all, shot NOTHING, but saw a total of 3 grouper and 1 amberjack between 5 divers...on 2 dives each...pretty slim pickins....:( Then again, still WAS nice to get out :)

Glad to hear you are having fun, Trop. I am already looking at my calendar, trying to figure out when I am taking my next trip.
I still have to be in Key largo next week for the Gulf Council Meeting. Trying to decide whether to pull the boat down for just one full day and a couple of afternoons. Looong pull with a 25' Aquasport and an old suburban.
Decisions, decisions.....

I know, I know...it's not in May like everyone else. :)
I'm coming down the last week of August, staying at Futura Yacht club in Islamorada, keeping my 19' boat there for a week.
Hope to meet some of you while we're down there.

tropicaldiver...
"All in all, shot NOTHING, but saw a total of 3 grouper and 1 amberjack between 5 divers...on 2 dives each...pretty slim pickins.... "
:D that's because you were out off Islamorada...there is ALOT more fishing presure up there. i'd say what you saw was a pretty good day.
now down here in the middle and lower keys...that would have sucked.
i really wish this weather would cooperate

Hey Keez,
How's it looking for tbis weekend? Any chance the wind may let up? Been reading the reports but it's always better hearing it from someone who is there. Thinking of dragging the whaler down this weekend from Broward with the wife to do a little spearfishing at Islamorada. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

the wind is just insane down here...i havn't been out on the reef in the upper keys..
but honestly...it's probably 10-15' of vis untill you get out into 60-70' of water.
possibly better, but you'll also have to contend with 4-5' seas on the reef.
i honestly wouldn't waste the gas money to bring a boat down. i'm pretty sure it's gonna be 20knts all weekend.
sorry
