Does anyone know of some good brands of kayaks, i would like one for freediving and some occasional fishing. Im looking on ebay right now but theres too many choices. Thanks.
The best yak made is Scupper Pro by Ocean Kayak.
I spear 20 days a month from mine off any beach. I have been in mine in 6f seas and 30mph storm winds. ALL of your dive gear including gun will fit inside easily and the SP is faster, lighter and more maneuverable than a Hobie Mirage drive. You can buy 4 Scupper Pros for the same money as 1 Hobie. Just my opinion.
Hope this helps

I love my ocean kayak drifter. Its as stable as you can get and is pretty fast if you have any upper body strength.
I have to try to tip it over when getting in it after a dive, Up in the northern calif area stability is everything.

I am a big dude and dive in cold water the Scupper Pro is close to the weight limit with all my dive gear. I went with the Prowler Trident 15 it has a rod pod hatch which is nice for long spearguns. It is longer and will carry more weight too.

Ocean Kayak has some good models to choose from, as you probably have caught on my now. I drift out of my Malibu 2. It is a tandom, duh, and I use the front seat to hold the gear. The weight up front simulates another person, and the kayak stays balanced really well.
Try to go to a demo day at a local store and see what works for you.

thanks, do you normally drift with kayaks or anchor them?

have done both, depending on the tide, current, how well I know the area, conditions, etc. if I am feeling extra lazy I lay face down on the surface w/mask and snorkel, with one foot on the boat drifting along. If I see something I can go down for it, and never stray too far from the boat. laaaazy....

I don't have any kayaks right now, but another great option is the ocean kayaks prowler 13. I use mine for fishing and spearfishing, the biggest advantage that I find on the prowler over the scupper is that I stand-up on my kayak and I can cast and use a push-pole as well.
The prowler/trident 11 is an amazing kayak with lots of storage and is the most stable boat the ocean kayaks has right now on their lineup. I've done a 7 day camping trip on the everglades with a group of friends, and I've used the 11 as a loaner for that trip.... It blew my mind away. more storage space than my 13, more stable, faster and most importantly, stealthier than my 13.
Call Rolando @ Kayak Jeffs store in Dania. He would be a great asset on your side. They will help you and point you on the right direction.
goodluck,
