I'm not up to speed on any of the MLPA actions outside the South Coast study region, so I was surprised when I recieved this in the mail.

So what does this letter mean in terms of what's good and what's bad for us fishermen. And does anyone think I should respond to it?

I got an emailed version of it. No hardcopy as of yet, though I haven't gotten the mail today yet.

Got a pm from Chip. Looks like I got this mailed to me by accident. So I guess I'll probably be the only one mailed this letter.

This was the first time I had anything mailed to me, so it kinda struck me as important. And that's why I posted it up in the first place.

Still I'd appreciate any comments on what this letter means in Layman's terms. It's 53 pages long with locations I've never heard about before.

Right now this looks like some changes have been made to the proposed closures in the north coast study region. Beyond that I've got no clue if I should even care about this.

Daniel, that letter is in regards to the last F&G commission meeting, where they were STILL not done with the concensus of the north-central coast area. Salt point is a very popular camping/ abalone diving area, and Pt Arena is also having some major resistance with regards to the MLPA process. These are spots that were in the IPA, Alternative Proposal, that was built by the BRTF instead of the working groups. There was NO concensus with that area, so they had to create a map of closures out of all the previous proposed sites.
It's kind of a roadmap for what they will ultimately do with SoCal, as the enviros will not get what they want, we will say they got too much (True) and so the only recourse will be to create an alternative. That's what the letter means and that is what it contains- the different areas, rationales, take concerns, impacts to other resources, all that good stuff.

That right there is the scariest part of the process. Do you trust Meg Caldwell to make a reasonable decision?
