First of all let me congratulate you on a wonderful site. I have scoured the internet and have found no other site as helpful and complete as SPEARBOARD.COM

If I may, I would like to offer a suggestion that I think would be of great value to many of the spearos that currently visit this web site. I noticed that you can list members by Date Joined, Alphabetically, Top Ten Posts, and a number of other ways through your Advanced Search. What I have not been able to do though, is to find a group of people in my area. I guess I could just start a thread looking for people in my area, but then I would be betting on the fact that the people that I am looking for would actually see and read my message.

In my humble opinion, I think listing registered users by geographical area would be a great tool for all of us.

If there is already a way for me to find people by geagraphic location, you may call me a moran. Nonetheless I would appreciate it if you showed me how to do it...;)

Please keep up the good work...

I think it comes down to the capabilities of the software used to run the forum. If it doesn't let us sort by state, well, then we're out of luck!
In either case, I know a lot of people do not put their real location in their profile. Or it may say something like East Coast, (state?) or like yours or mine, which might cause problems when the software tries to categorize.

Scott can answer this question better than I, but those are just my thoughts.

Paul is basically right, althought there are "hacks" made all the time by good php programmers to get around the limitations of the software. I think you raise a good question, and it was for that reason that I added the hack that your home port now automatically shows-up in your signature. That is a hack that was just added within the last three months or so. The thinking there is that a user can not click on the profile button of everyone, but would find nearby users more often with it showing up in a signature.

Look for a lot more coming soon. Spearboard will be getting another facelift, and more features to include IM, and some other surprises.

Thanks for taking the time to make a suggestion.

Thanx for the insight guys. Since posting my suggestion, I have become a little more comforatable with the site and its "Search" engine. I started to put in words like South Padre, Oil Rigs, South Texas, RGV, and low and behold...I started to meet people in my area. I just wanted to mention this in case there are others out there like me that are...let's just say not so savy with a computer.
