what is the best way to carry a 14 ft yak in a f 150 pick up?
I've been looking around for choices and all seem a little over the budget, like those bars conected to the hitch receiver ,or roof crossbars ,even expensier when you buy all items needed to make it work.
i've been told to sit yak on top the cabin and secure with two straps that run around the yak and to inside of the cabin and use something under the yak to avoid ruining truck paint... but this method might not be very safe i think? please help this rookie out!!
( sorry about my english i wish i could explain better way)
ps: if someone knows about someone selling used roof crossbars compatible for f 150 please let me know!!
any advice would be greatly apreciated... thanks in advance

This is the setup I have and it works great since I'm able to still use the truck bed area and pull a trailer or camper if needed. The bars are from yakima

check out http://www.rackwarehouse.com/
I've used them twice and they had the best price and great service. Still not real cheap anywhere though.
You shouldn't have to bolt anything to the truck. The bars clamp on.

Get the extend-a-truck. It's fairly cheap, just make sure you have some crossbars or something up front. Here's a pic loaded before my 20 hour journey to key west.

I used to carry a 14 footer on my subaru impreza. I used a couple foam blocks from Bass Pro Shops and ran straps through the inside of my car. Seemed to work fine. I have also just rolled up a few towels and set the kayak on those. I think you could figure something out without spending $250 on racks.

Thule rack, looks nice. I didn't want to look like a low bid contractor, like my last truck.
A couple different looks.

I got a bunch of 2X2X3 from home depot for 1.89 each and built one out of them for around 20.00. It is kinda getto but it worked when I needed it in a hurry.

fishizzle77: beautifull ... that what i'm looking for... where did u get it..? how much?... what brand name is ''extend a truck'' ?
i will have to buy a hitch receiver and at least one crossbar up front to set the two yaks with that set up
estimated price with out taxes: $ 500
TueLePoisson : yes i tought about buying those foam long and cylindrical shaped things that kids like to use at the pool to float on to set yak on top and strap it to the cabin ... but this might not be safe for a 2 hour trip at 70 80 mph... besides with time i think the straps will break the rubber joints at the truck door and it will leak!!
holymackerel : that's by far the best set up for a truck... however as i said before i have a cover on my truck bed that i need to get compressors and tools away from rain .( i use this truck for mechanical work)
thanks everybody again.... now i have more ideas :thumps:

i like ugly trucks.. they get the job done and u don't have to be worrying about scratching the paint ;)
