View Full Version : 8-10 Paddy Hopping SD
Well, sorry for the late post but here it is. I went out again with my H&L buddies outta SD and had the best diving day ever! Just about at the 9 mile bank, first paddy, BIG Yellowtail on!:thumps: Next paddy Yellow tail miss:eek: Now the third paddy, well that was something I will never forget. The nite before, my buddy Bayla promised me he would get me on some tuna, and he did. This paddy had LARGE a schools of Dodo's and Yellows all around it. I start plugging away. It was really like being inside a crystal clear aquarium. Next thing I see is a LARGE school of tuna right underneath me. I aim and realize :eek:I have no float on so I pull back and shoot another Dodo. I had lost a shaft and rigging earlier to a big yellow, so I didn't want to lose my last setup with so many fish around. The tuna were gone as fast as they appeared and I didn't see any more the rest of the day. Water was 73 deg. No sun but in the water the vis was unbelievable. we ended up around 25 miles out and that was the best area. They are out today in search for more tuna. Good luck to them.

It's so thrilling to dive on tuna at paddies. You just don't expect it and the excitement is great. I dove on some last year, shot and wiffed. I thought it was 15ft and probably was 25 ft. Plus, they were speedy little guys.:D
Great report!

Dang Tommy..your killing it.
Thanks everyone. Yes this year is starting off great with my new gun. I will be ready for the tuna next time. Maybe this week? It's just awsome to be out in the water. Thanks and go get em!
Yeah Daren, I'm getting so confident with that new gun that I find myself taking some hail mary shots that are waaaay out there..... but Its still fun to see the fish react, and I'm getting the range of the gun down. And sometimes...I'm connecting! And you're right, tuna on paddies is something so unbelievable to see. I hope it happens again.

Nice TRIP! I am so jealous. I went out last week with my boy and we found ideal conditions. water was at 70 to almost 72 but all the paddys were dry. We hit the 9 mile bank and farther. We headed out of o-side. The best part of the trip is we found a marlin sun bathing. Of course i did not have a float line and a float to take the marlin so my friend tried to hook up with it. Marlin woke up from its sleep and took off. What a wonderful sight. We were so close to it we could have hit it with a rock.
