Well after the SBO I just thought I'd take a weekend off. NOT! Couldn't resist. Had all of the lobsters on the brain that we didn't take last weekend. Headed out to a nice ledge with my wife, my buddy Frank his wife and two kids (4 and 7!!!) and the forever newbie (eyeball).

Seas- 3 ft laying down as the day progressed
Viz- 25 ft (big difference from last weeks 100)
Temp warm on top, thermo coming back on bottom

Had a nice day with only a couple dives. Took the big inner tube to tie off to the boat and let everyone swim around. First dive yielded a nice hog and a few lobsters. Eyeball shot a trigger and a sheeps and got a really nice 10-11 lb bug. Second dive I got a few more lobs and nice alpha hog. Went 23 1/2 lbs! Nice day on the ocean. Tried my hand at free diving for AJ's. I now am completely willing to say I have the breath hold of a 2 year old with really bad asthma!!! Had fun with them though. Great ride in for a short day. Kids had a ball swimming around looking at all the fish.

Les

PS. Newbie did a second dive. Missed the biggest ledge in SC and did a sand dive. Made him swim upcurrent to the boat. Also, bugs are starting to berry up.

Here's a picture. Have some of the lobs but they're on that thing they call film. What doth film have to do with pictures? Eyeball, you don't suck, I just think you need to learn to follow the jug line!! Great day. Les

sweet!

that's either a big-ass hog, or your arms are 7 feet long.

good job...now, how many lobsters did you get?

You guys got some sick hogs!

That is the first I have ever heard of anyone missing the line on one of my jugs. Is that the one you ran over?

Shoulda used factory authorized line only. :D

Screen, it was not a jug related issue. They performed flawlessly as one would expect out of such a fine piece of equipment. This was not the one missing line. Still had all factory direct accessories. Gum, we only got 7 lobs total. Many berried up and the viz was not the greatest and they weren't roaming around like cockroaches. But two went over 10 lb. Lobster quesadilla's and Buffalo Lobster Nuggets!!!!

Beautiful hog Les! I shot a 5 fish limit down here this morning, but all of them put together would not outweigh that trophy!

It was a HUGE hoggy, Les and I also took two monster lobsters (one each). On the missed ledge issue, I dropped over the side and just went straight down thinking it was the same as the last dive, but I didn't pay attention to the fact that the boat had swung around 90 degrees.

Also an interesting story on Les' hog, he freeshafted it on the first dive and it got away from him, he saw it again under a ledge with the spear still in it on the second dive and managed to grab it and stick it in his lobster bag. He didn't EVEN HAVE A GUN OR STRINGER ON THE SECOND DIVE!!!!!!!!!! :O :O

Les,
You're killing me with these trophy hogs! Seems that if you want big hogs...follow "slayer". One of these days I'm going to et out there off the coast of SC and get one of those big guys myself!

Hunting out of Cape Canaveral next week.

Yeah...hope I can put up some pictures like what you do (on a regular basis); however, can't say I've ever seen any Hogzilla's in Fla like what you get offshore from Chas! The other bad thing is that it is not bug season in Fla...that usually means those 6 and 7#'s will be out thumbing their nose at me.

First congrats for the fish and the lobster!!! Just help me understand one thing guys. Can we catch Lobster off season? When does season starts??

gumshoe

The season in South Carolina is year round, but the per person bag limit is only 2.

I wouldn't take them out of season if I were in FL. That would be a violation of wildlife regulations.

FL miniseason is 7/28-29. Regular season opens 8/6.

Well the bugs are pretty well berried-up so we won't be looking too hard for a while anyway. No need to jeopardize the female's and keep some for later. Kite you sound like you're counting the days.

I am Les. I did a dive off my beach this morning and found over a dozen. All short but still a good sign.

Got to remember also that the bugs up Les's way consistently run 5 and 6 lbs as opposed to the Fla bugs that you have to measure. 2 bug limit up in SC could still get you a lot of lobster!

Hey Kite...do those pictures that Les put up make you wish you were back up there hunting Hogzilla?

Dave:

Their average SC lobsters are a pound or two bigger than the biggest lobster I got down here last year. Les and I were discussing different culinary challenges and approaches to cooking such thick tails while I was there. I'm not sure where they came up with the 2 bug limit, there didn't seem to be any less lobster there than here.

I can't wait to get back up to SC to hunt those hogs and to see more of the area that I missed during my short stay there. What amazes me the most about the area is how consistently it produces so many trophy hogs. It's a special place, and even though I can't hunt it as regularly as Les and Rob, it's still nice to know it's there and will be waiting for me when it counts - during next year's Spearboard Open.

Les: I thought of you this morning on my dive when out of nowhere I got buzzed by a big turtle. I think that it is God's way or reminding me that I need to get back on my diet. :D

Eyyeball: That is one ugly dog!

Now you're calling me fat John??????? Everybody on the site and the loggerheads of SC have been calling me fat lately. What's up with that? A "plush" guy can't get a break in this crowd!!! John I hope you don't wait for SBO 2005 to come shoot with me again. You're welcome any time. Take an extra day and we'll make it not such a rushed trip. Lots to do and see around here.
