As many of you have noticed, SpearBoard is working hard to ensure that only "approved" views are expressed. Thanks to those of you who have noticed and conveyed your regrets.

The risks of online discussion groups are apparent. So is the surveillance that reads these online statements. Simple posts can easily be combined and used to damage credibility and integrity.

Recent statements by panel members reinforce the notion that massive attendance at public meetings can be far outweighed by even a few well-drafted documents that effectively combine fact, law, policy and science to promote a preferred course of action.

In any challenging issue, there are bound to be diverse views. We all lose when power is applied to limit reasonable discussion and restrict opportunities for effective participation.

Chip,

Are you volunteering to create one of those well-crafted documents?

If so, thanks, but its my understanding that its a bit late for documents other than those promoting one of the three maps presented by the RSG groups.

Everyone: This is Chip under a different name.

Welcome back Chip--it's been a while. We've been through a lot with the MLPA but you can catch up by reading what has been happening in the last few months.

To everyone: To avoid the inevitable accusations of "elite clique" or intolerance of "different opinions", I urge people not to respond to this thread. It will go nowhere and won't help anyone at this 23rd hour.

If you have followed these types of threads from Chip for the past year, it will inevitably blow up into arguments and there will be zip, nada, nothing CONCRETE suggested or offered that will help anyone.

We are at the late inning. Focus your energies on making the write-in deadline by Oct. 10th and upcoming BRTF meetings on Oct. 20-22 in Long Beach.

Finally Chip--use your Seacidal userid. We like to know who we deal with. I don't tolerate multiple screen names for SecretCove so I will apply that rule evenly. You have about 24 hours with this "Marksman" screen name and after that, say bye-bye to Marksman. No, I'm not censoring you. You can still post under your Seacidal screen name.

Everyone else: Please let Chip be.

Your overworked Mod.

Chip, I understand what you're saying, and wholeheartedly agree with you.

What I don't understand is why you post this under a different screen name.

I tend to piss people off with some of my views, but I weigh my statements and the possible repercussions to me before I make them. I think it adds a lot of weight to your opinions when you stand by them in person, rather than behind an alternate ID.

When it comes to the MLPA and other topics, I sometimes piss people off, even to the point that they really dislike me, but I do so when I feel it is more important that I stand up for the right thing than those people like me. By this, I mean it's more important to me to save places like central Laguna so that people like my dad who can't walk down the stairs at 1000 steps can dive than it is to have Nate, Terry, or anyone else like me.

If it's important enough to you to post about it, then post about it as Chip.

Back from diving...time's up.

There is no room in the CA forum and among spearos here for posting behind multiple screen names.

Thread closed.
