Yup i am from BC but i am over on the island. Im sorry i dont think i can make it:mad: im busy for a while. but i know lots about spear fishing here. The most important thing you should know is that lingcod are illegal to shoot. They are up to 50 pounds and live on the bottem. Unfortunatly just about all fish in this area are the same. I would get a regulations guide they have it all. I think the small bays and inlets in the howe sound have a good number of rockfish and the limit is one per person per day. Watch for strong currents they can rip through some inlets! If you need to know anything pm me or post it:D

Good to know your up there...

Im expecting water temps in the 50's and vis abut 10-20 on average? Probably wont spear unless I find someone to hook up with who wants to. Just gonna be checking out a new environment. Cold darka and pea soup green just feels comfortable to me like going home... cant wait.

Just Got back; great diving. Here in Fl we go 60 miles off shore to get to 150 feet... I did that up there on a beach dive!!

Not a spearfisking trip but I figured Id tell some of yall about it anyway. Dove in a provincial park on Howe Sound; north of vancouver. The day starts in a parking lot; 98 degrees and blaring sun and me wearing a drysuit; jacked up LP tank, and 40 lbs of lead for my walk across the lot; down a large staicase, accross a beach, and finally into the refreshing 48 degree water.

Vis was ZERO/nothing on surface so I had some doubts but got to about twenty feet below the warmer surface water. I started down a steep rocky slope checking out the anemonies and star fish and lings. Kept dropping down until the light got so dim that I couldnt hardly see... than I sat there taking in my surroundings all narced up in 154 feet feet 48 degree water and almost totally dark pee soup water. I sat there contemplating how different this was from the 60+ vis and warm water diving I had been doing in FL three days beforewhen a huge ling cod; biggest I ever seen and ugly as all hell, just came up to me and stres me in the face from two feet away; pretty freaky. Once I had my narc fix I ascended and dove towrd the shipwrecks of the park on a pre-determinned compass heading; and found them easily.

The frst spot was a 150 foot wood wreck with twenty feet of profile in 110 feet; I buzzed it casually wanting to save my air for shallower water. I ascended up the slope more to another steel barge in 40- 60 feet; about 80 feet long wher I hung out for awhile making friends with some locals. THe area was protected from fishing so large fish were everywhere. This wheck was covered in huge snow-white anemonies about a foot tall; freaky looking... when I got bored I ascended farther to a couple other small wrecks, some artificila reefs, then to the surface. Great day of diving and one of the best dives of my trip.
