Letrappes,a friend and I hit some rock piles out of Indian pass today The first dive was a rock pile in 65ft . the vis was terrible and we never really got on the ledge. One barely legal cobia and one black snapper. The second dive was 95Ft- 12 red snapper one gouper one black snapper. The sharks were all over the place and aggressive.
Dove the Empire mica last and didn't shoot one fish off it.
total
12 red snapper to 16lbs
2 grouper
2 black snapper
1 cobia
1 triple tail (hook and line)
sorry scott your picture did not turn out

Is that the cobia you are pulling on board in the first pic? Sounds like you had a great trip! Nice shooting and great report!

How was the 'Mica? I only dove it on one occasion (last year) and I still have bad dreams about that school of 'Cudas that I'm told are always there.

Pat, I dove it summer before last and never seen so many cuda's in one spot as on the Mica. Must have been 1000+ that we could see. The nightmare for me wasn't from the cudas but from a 12+ shark that had to go over 1000lbs. Looked to my right after nudge from buddy while on the deck in 15 ft. viz and it took a while for the gray to stop. Back on the boat we prob. caught 7 bulls 6-9ft. and had no less than a dozen circling the boat the whole day.

Oh my...I was reading about the wreck and it is a huge ship!

IT WAS A HUGE WRECK. Only one of the three sections of the ship is still standing, I assume, it is anyway. I did enjoy swimming down a large staircase through the interior and out a bulkhead. It was the only time I have ventured inside a wreck sll the way and it was very spacious. I can only guess what it was like while it was being salvaged in the 70's.
The picture in my avatar is one of the barracudas I shot while freediving, between dives, above it last Summer. I should point out that the picture is compressed alittle in the vertical so the fish longer and I am not that buff. Don't tell anyone though.

Biggsy: That's not a cobia in the first pic. That's one of the sharks that tried to steal our fish. He followed us to the top so we caught him on rod and reel.
The first dive we did was very worrisome for me as the bottom murk was very thick and I couldn't see more than 10 feet if that. Our second dive was just awesome. I was in about 20 feet when I hit the 16 lb red snapper that is my personal best. After that the sharks came around. We sat on the bottom shooting more snapper and grouper while the sharks circled. On our way back up they started coming in closer and Mykm got aggressive with them and they stayed off a ways. That dive was just amazing for the amount of fish in the water. I am definitely thankful that mykm asked me to go along with him for the day and am looking forward to a chance to do it again. I just wish my picture with the hoop of death from the second dive would have came out.
