View Full Version : Important Changes With The Jolly Rogers 2

Oxygen -The boat has upgraded it's O2 supply to include 4 E-bottles, and 2 M60-bottles with freeflow rebreather masks providing a grand total of 5 hours at a 15 liter flow. Even in the catastrophic event of two divers simultaneously taking a hit, we can accomodate them in the typical time it takes for a USCG chopper to respond in the MG (2 hours). If you dive in the MG, make sure the boat has adequate O2. A dive tank with 80% nitrox, and a regulator that people have been scrubbing off of all trip doesn't cut it (what if the diver is unconcious?). All crew are USCG licensed captains, and at minimum divemaster certified. I am personally renewing my CPR, and DAN O2 provider certs in the very near future.

Fuel Surcharge- Diesel has increased in Steinhatchee from $1.20 to $1.70 per gallon in just the past two months. With a 500 gallon per trip fuel burn, we have no choice but to add a $25pp fuel surcharge. If you do the math, the JR2 is absorbing half the increase. This is temporary, and will be eliminated once the price goes down somewhat.

Deposits- From now going forward, all trip deposits ($100pp) will be required no later than 30 days before departure, and will be cashed. Additionally, any cancellation within two weeks of the trip will result in forfeiture of deposit unless the diver secures his own replacement. In other words, if you cancel, and we have to fill the spot for you, the deposit is still lost.

Waivers -Will soon be available online at www.jollyrogersii.com. They must be signed prior to departure no exceptions. Divers under 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent/legal guardian, and notarized prior to arrrival. You will be required to have your certification cards (advanced open water, nitrox) in possession. An advanced nitrox cert will be required if you choose to conduct O2 scrubbing during your safety stops.

Air Conditioning- I'm happy to report that the brand new A/C ran on a trip for the first time this weekend, and the cabin was at near Arctic conditions!! The cost is $100 ($20pp) to run all of Friday, and Saturday nights. This is purely an option.

Most of this stuff is common sense, and puts us in line with the standard procedure of most professional dive operators. We have been fortunate in that the vast majority of our business is repeat so we haven't neccessarily been as "official" with policy in the past. We're looking forward to slinging steel, and filling masssive stringers with all of you scheduled in the upcoming months. Standing by.

Just get Zack's waiver laminated and frame it in the cabin. I would also just get $100 from him and put it in escrow. That would save him alot of time!!:D:D

I like the new deposit policy, keep ya from scrambling for a diver at the last minute!

Rich-
If I knew what an escrow was, I would most surely come back with a smartass comment!

Escrow----it's a third party that holds your money until both parties are satisfied that services have been rendered to satisfaction.
See, if AJ held $100 of yours in escrow, you would not have to put down a deposit everytime you went out. Since he already has it and cannot spend it unless you say so.

Less work for you.
Ask your Dad, he'll explain escrow to you.

Why would he know what escrow is? He still gets an allowance, for pete's sake!

If allowance is in the form of a visa card, then I guess your right!

Visa card, Mercedes, anything that would be insane to give to a 16 year old kid - whatever...

hey...you asked!

Oh, I almost forgot.....

Tanks-The maximum total of low pressure tanks that we will take on a full weekend trip is 8 (out of the 42 that come on the boat). Much disinformation has been spread that the JR2 doesn't like these tanks, but simple reason is space. LP tanks do not fit in our outside racks, and bringing more than 8 means laying tanks on top of the ones standing up in the tank box which could result in the possibility of damaging a valve. The vast majority of MG dives will put you in 90'-120'. Do you really need an overfilled Faber LP120 for that?

For new trips, slots for LP's will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Same goes with trips already booked if you haven't mentioned LP tanks to me already.

Tanks are available for rent or "borrow". You would be looking at $10-$12 per tank including the nitrox fill for the weekend. I typically have available up to 6 HP100's, and 9 HP94.6's (yoke valve). We will even have them ready on the boat for you.

The generator burned ALOT more fuel running the AC last week than we thought it would. We're going to run it again this weekend to see. It might result in having to adjust the price on AC.

Visa card?

Growing up on a farm in Arkansas all I got was a shovel and kick out the door at 5am. For that I was allowed to stay in the home and eat the food my daddy put on the table.

My my how times have changed :P

d4b, if the lp's are smaller than 120's, does the same limitaions apply?

In this case, girth - not length - matters. I sometimes bring LP 85s that have the same 7" diameter as AL 80s, and that is fine (no limitation). The problem is with the larger LPs with an 8" diameter (LP 98s and up); these tanks take up more space in the tank locker where the tanks are stored standing up. It doesn't sound like much difference, but it adds up when you are trying to fit 42 tanks on the boat.

good thing we are in this war for oil! i hear ya on the fuel hike you guys are still undercharging for what you deliver to the clients. the JRII is a first class charter and has every right to raise the prices to double of what they are now. after running my boat for just a few months now i understand what the REAL costs of doing business is. please understand that jimmy z is not trying to get rich off the diving public he's just trying to make a paycheck.
