The California Fish and Game Commission is asking the Governor to exempt wardens from furloughs or stop implementation of "new" programs. Here is an except:
“The Commission does not want to delay any environmental protection but understands that under current conditions, there are not enough wardens to do the job. Furloughs have reduced the thin line of environmental police in California by 14%, and the Commission must take into account our impact on this reduced force before implementing any new regulations that exacerbate the impact on our wardens and heighten the risk to officer safety.”

Is it going to make a difference? I have to think they'll implement the closures regardless of what the wardens want. This process has never been about making sense. It's political. They've got a mandate to create closures, so that's what they're going to do.
I hope I'm wrong.

I think it is a split decision on what will happen. We are moving into another budget year, and they are already dreading the fact that there was no real robust recovery here, and many small folks are even MORE opposed to raising taxes to fund anything. I believe we will see even MORE cutbacks in Parks &DFG this year. So long as they can't basically raise our taxes by about 1/3....the state is going to have to cut and paste like never before. They are running out of hocus-pocus ways of twisting the spending and budget building. We may see some pared back by the state design yet unheard of and as of yet unseen with regards to the MLPA. If nothing else, to say "We got SOMETHING out of it." They have not had one correct projection yet on budget and revenue, so the reality is a far out in left field guess. I am for sure not holding my breath on this one, I am tensely thinking along your lines here Nate.
