One of the most common questions I get from people is: "How do I post photos on Spearboard?"
This will attempt to answer that question. Here is the information some of you may have seen in the main page FAQ:
How Do You Post Photographs
This is accomplished by one of two methods.
Method One: Link to a photo already on the internet. This will require that you upload your photo on to someone else's server. There are sites that will allow you to upload photos for free(e.g.,momentoffame.com,fishingworks.com, etc). With this accomplished, you simply link to the photo in your post by either clicking on the IMG button, which will ask for your link, or by manually typing {IMG}linkgoeshere.com{/IMG}, except instead of using {}, use [ ].
Method Two: Use the spearboard server by "attaching" the photo to your post. In the message screen, you have an option at the bottom to attach a file. Use this much the same way you would to attach a file to an email. Find it's location on your hard drive and upload it. If you get a message that the file is too large, see next question below.
I just discovered a new site with the help of Spearboard Member itsrainin that will make method one above much easier. He referenced the site www.imageshack.us , and I just visited and think it is very easy to use.
There are some "free" sites that don't work well at all with forums, such as fishingworks. Guys try to link to their photos and it does not work the majority of the time.
With imageshack, it's a piece of cake. You go right to the home page, browse for the photo on your hard drive that you want to use on Spearboard, upload it, and then it automatically takes you to a page, complete with the full link for using it on a forum (it even includes the "img" in brackets--couldn't be easier). Simply cut and paste the complete link, including the IMG, into your post.
Of course, you'll still need to know how to resize your image if it is set in your digital camera at too high a resolution, as there are size limitations. But if you've got that part down, then imageshack will help you with the rest (and no, I have no affiliation with them....just think the site is cool and works great with forums). By the way, their size restriction is 850kb.....pretty generous, and allows for a large photo when the res is knocked down to 72 (recommended for web use).
Hope this helps.
