1-2' seas dont happen very often around here but when they do it is time for a hookie day. Left out on Slay Ride with Les, and a couple of fisherman. First dive Les hit the bottom way before me and was shoulders deep in a hole digging out lobsters with a 21# Alpha hog watching him from behind. He look poised to attack so i did what i had to do to protected the capt. (I got your back Les) Les was the lobster king on this dive. He has all the sudden got the "knack" for spotting slippers. I proceeded to continue my missing streak on the grouper population. I don't know what my deal is lately. Guess I need to get in the pool and zero in. Visibility was pretty good on all spots. Thermocline seems to start at around 50' with decent vis even in the thermocline.
2nd dive spot we almost didn't dive. Structure looked ok but we just were not marking any fish on it. We drifted it a bit with rod and reel. My live pinfish got smashed and everyone made fun of me for having a shark on. Turned out to be a nice red snapper! That helped make the decision, suit up lets dive! I went one way on the jug and Les went the other. Didn't see him the rest of the dive. Covered a lot of fishless ground then found a nice 10 pound lobster with a big hole behind him. Slid my gun behind him to block his escape and bagged him. That is 5 lobsters in a row that won't fit through that bug tamer bag. Had to unzip and put him in backwards. Ended up just lift bagging the whole bag up. Too much drag and couldn't fit much more in the bag anyway. Finally found some nice female hogs and started working on them. Well big daddy hog didn't seem to like that. He came in on me like a rattled up buck. I mean straight at me from out in the sand and stopped. Lights out big alpha. I knew he was bigger then any of the others I've shot. At the end of the day back at the marina on their tournament scales he weighed 25 pounds.
New personal best Hog.
