Last year, the state closed over 70% of the La Jolla coastline to fishing. The animal rights activists are trying to take away the rest. The Children's Pool was once the home of the Bottom Scratchers dive club and witnessed the birth of our sport. We have managed to keep it open until now. The City of San Diego currently has a proposal supported by animal rights extremists and a bought-and-paid-for mayor to close the Children's Pool. This is the last beach with a permanent lifeguard tower open to spearfishing in La Jolla.

The Friends of the Children's Pool along with several other organizations are supporting a compromise proposal put forward by the Lifeguards for the Children's Pool. There is a meeting tonight and there will be meetings in the near future about a closure that the City Council voted for way back in 2010 before the MLPA etc.... Now Children's Pool access is even more important to us! If you support the Children's Pool and you don't want to see it closed, please sign the petition on the page above. Please also share with friends/family! If you have the ability to donate, please do so. We still have the City in court over their recent actions which the judge recognized were illegal.

I recall being told that kala, (Unicornfish), were not good to spear. I was just watching a video on youtube and they were targeting Kala. Are they good eating? Are they OK to spear? I recall seeing a lot of them in large schools.
