I am going to Kor Tao Thailand next week for a class with http://www.blue-immersion.com/ . I will have a few days after the class and was wondering if anyone know anything about spearing there and if I will have any problems getting my spear guns into the country.

Hey SB,

I was hoping to get some input as to how people are rigging their break away setups for hunting pelagics in blue water.

With my current setup, I feel that my range and "punch" is being impacted by the way I have my setup rigged.

I am using a Riffe Standard #3 (5/16 shaft w ice pick) with (3) 5/8 x16mm bands and I have a 300LB mono loop through the pigtail swivel then am clipping my float line to the loop. (kind of hard to explain see picture).

So when I fire the gun I am left with just the gun in my hands and the shaft is attached to my float line. I am using a Neptonics 75 foot float line with one hard float to a Neptonics 6 foot bungee attached to a Riffe 2 ATM float.

I feel like that as I am swimming and diving, the wind is constantly taking my float setup to the max length so when I pull the trigger the shaft is essentially having to pull the float setup as it heads towards its target.

I was thinking of just attaching the shaft as normal to the gun and then clipping the float line to my gun via a spectra loop. That being said, I am thinking that their are more "fail" points with the setup like this and if something were to fail I would lose my whole rig.

Am I doing something wrong? I was thinking if I kept the setup like this I need to get in the habit of tugging at my float line before a shot to give it some slack? Float line too short?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

I've had a Dacor Viper Metal for years. It just started sounding like a harmonica on each and every inhalation. I love the side exhaust and it breathes great, so changing it out or tightening it up concerns me.

Thoughts?

I posted this on another board and thought I would cast a wider net...

Relatively new hunter (well, its been so long I consider myself a newbie) and have gathered a small group of folks where we go out on a weekly basis. We are working on improving the skill set from the individual to the group and have a question....

What have you found to work for you and your "team" as far as safety and making each hunt the most productive for the team. This is aside from the obvious of highly honed dive skills. We currently do everything from breaking off in teams of 2 to designating specific hunting areas and break off as individuals. We currently dive lakes (asian carp,gar,dogfish,etc) to stay sharp for trips south for real fish.

Our vis around here is from 10'-20' and I'm curious how the more experienced folks operate.

alright hey guys, im new to spearfishing and wanted to know some stuff about hand spears. whats good to get in terms of material and 1 piece, 2 piece etc.. i think im going to buy a Mirage Hand Spear - 2pc, Fibreglass, if its a good option? and i heard the stock rubber is shit. should i make my own? or have 2? and what rubbers etc do i use.

Just got back from a trip spearfishing in Costa Rica for the first time. It was really fun and we shot some great fish. Anyone been there and know of any good places and best time of year where the water has the best clarity? I know this has been hit a few times on Spearboard...

My Hero3 freezes up a LOT. I formatted the card and updated when I first got it, but on first use, it froze before it even hit the water. I took it home and formatted the card again, and used it fine for about four videos, then it started freezing about every third video. I am using the SanDisk Micro 32gb UHS-1 class. Same one GoPro sells on their website. I formatted FAT32 because it was the default, and I am about to give it a run NTFS to see if it makes a difference. As of right now, when I put the card in the GoPro I get SD Error, which makes me think after 2 months, I have a dead SD card...Anyone have any ideas, or maybe can spit out offhand the brand and type of SD they are using?

Im in the navy and try to go spearfishing in every port i visit i just pulled into sasebo japan and cant find any info on whether its legal or not so far the local fishing store sells spearguns but the guy doesnt know a lick of english and i cant get 1 word in english out of him whether its ok or not does anyone know for sure?

Need Bigger Fins- Help

I could use some direction here.....I have a pair of Picasso Black Team fins in size 46-48(size 12-13 I think), and with 2mm socks bare feet they're pretty tight. but bearable. BUT, with our colder early season water and heavier socks my feet go numb due to tightness. Can anyone direct me to fins with footpockets to fit a man with size 14 shoe AND 4mm socks ?? Anyone with size 14's try Mako's Competition Freediver Fins in 14-15 with socks ? Thanks.
