So long time reader first time posting. Bought a gun from a coworker and got new bands today. It's an old scubapro panther 35". Old school but nice and solid. Really stoked because had been using previously a small one band mini gun, not good for taking good sized lings.

Got to Garrapata, swell looked decent, 3-4ft. Vis looked GOOD from the road. Walked down, got in vis was good, about 20ft. Swam to the outside edge of the cove. So first time out with my new gun, do a few dives, thrid dive came upon a decent sized black and yellow rockfish outside of it's cave. put a good shot and decided to just ascend to see how good that flopper tip is gonna hold. Ripped the fish right out of the cave no problem.

Two dives later go down about 25ft, almost land on a good sized Cabezon just chillen under this ledge. Aim and shoot and yeah it's coming up with me :thumps: I ended up getting one more kelp rockfish and we ended the dive after about an hour. Good fishing today though, really feel blessed to get to live and spearfish around Monterey.

Gun worked great and I know it will see a lot more fish. Also found a baby 1in abalone in the stomach of the cabezon, whole with the meat and shell.

As some of you may know, Kelsey broke her leg and it required surgery. The auction is to help offset her substantial medical bills.

The auction closes at 6pm Pacific time. I know it is late notice, but this is my last opportunity to help out for a while. For more info on the course, please visit my website. The minimum age for the course is 12 years old so this is a good opportunity to get your son or daughter a basic safety education. http://deepfreedive.com/?page_id=2

Edit - Rather shallow (low tide at the time). Spent a good 30 min helping him look for it but detrital dust was killing viz to 6" last three feet to bottom.

PS - He will be getting a floatline. On the upside he got his first ling on a janky paralyzer tip fiberglass pole-spear

I am auctioning off this brand new Omer Cayman EF 140 with reel. All the money will go towards Kelsea's medical costs on her injury. If you are not familiar with her situation you can read it here. http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=161226

This is a brand new Omer Cayman EF 140 inclosed track black aluminum Included with reel that has the drag system in rear to control by hand. This Gun was the first production Demo type. A couple minor modifications may have been made but not sure. I never got around to using it so due to that fact I can't tell you much about how it shoots or handles but being a euro gun I'm sure you will not have any problems with accuracy and maneuverability. Bands may be a little old and might need to be retied. In this case, due to the fact that Kelsey will be receiving all the money I can't except any returns as I will not have the money to do so. So the gun is being sold as is.

Included

Gun
6.75 mm threaded shaft
Reel
Bands

not included

Tip
Reel line

Local Pick up only, Long beach or Orange county. I will not deal with shipping.

I will let you guys make your offer and will ask Kelsea to jump in and decide how long she wants to run this for and when she wants to end the auction.

Good Luck and remember this is going for an important cause.
Thank you

Over the past 6 months I haven't been getting out in the water too much due to my primary addiction of chasing chrome up and down the PNW coast. However, with seasons changing and a little break in schoolwork I have finally been able to get my spear in the water.

As many already know, the past few weeks have seen some pretty awesome dive conditions in the northern part of the realm. I was set to meet up with a good friend of mine Saturday morning, but ended up sleeping in a bit due to the two bottles of Cazadore's that ended up in my living room the night before. Once I knew what planet I was on in the morning, I quickly geared up and sped as fast as my truck could handle to the dive spot because I knew what the vis was going to be. Upon arrival I was stoked to suit up and enter into the water with some approximate 12 foot vis. I met up with my buddy, I headed out toward my favorite pinnacle in some deeper water. I wasn't seeing too many fish one my drops while I was headed out to my spot, but once there, I knew why I always make a few dives. On my first few dives I was accompanied by a few nice blacks which I gladly added to my stringer. I could definitely tell I was rusty because my first couple shots I didn't pay attention to how much lag my float line was putting on my pole spear and missed a couple shots due to slow release. After that I was in the zone..:gun: Two nice rockfish straight to the dome ko'd. I then began making deeper dives in search of some lingerers.. I immediately came down on a decent 7 lb ling that I shot straight through the top of his mouth into the ground sealing his mouth shut.. Dang I forgot how much I liked the sound my spear makes when it fires through a fish..

Happy now with my start, and realizing that I had avoided my friend who was searching for a giant hub cap, I headed back toward the shallower bottom in search of a big ab myself. Cool enough though, when I got into about 15 feet I ran across my first octopus I had ever seen. I was very hesitant about taking it because I didn't want it to suck on my face.. Finally I told myself to not be a pussy, cause the thing was only about 3lbs, and yank it off the bottom. On the surface I had the hardest time trying to stab its brain, I'm guessing because it was a smaller pus.. My buddy came over laughing and me and told me to chomp on it. So, slightly nervous, I stretched it out and clamped down hard on what I assumed was its brain.. The pus quickly wrapped its legs around my goggles pulling them off my eyes, but it was small enough I could easily rip it off my face.. And after one more bite, my first octo found its place inside my banks board. :D

I then spent a little more time looking for some big abs, but never found what I wanted. Personally, I don't find ab hunting all that thrilling, so I headed out to deeper water again to look for another fat ling. I ended up seeing a couple more, but not the monster I want this season, so I just shot another rockfish and called it a day. On a whole, stoked to dive with a good friend, great vis, and avoid studying for finals.. amped for the summer to come..

I kept getting errors when trying to add my photos as attachments, so no pics unfortunately unless I can figure out how to post them..

I just had a really odd experience with the gate worker at Crystal Cove. It seemed like the second she noticed my spear gun and kill bag in the seat next to me she turned into a Raging B.... I know it's near enough to laguna that there is overflow of the Enviro-nut types... And come to think of it, she kind of personofied way I think of the way they look. middle aged, slightly pudgy, short blonde hair.

Has anybody else run into this? I know some of the supervisors and lifeguards from Crystal Cove read these boards and are pretty darn good spearos too boot. Maybe they could look into it. even if it wasn't motivated by hatred of consumptives, her attitude is unacceptable from any public service employee.

If anybody else has run into this, as a matter of fact, please send me a message with details as I will be writing a couple letters of complaint

I am not seeing it...
I have a trip planned to head to the gualala area tomorrow-Sunday. Looking at the swell forcast it does not look super promising to a SoCal diver like myself. I have dove up there before and know there are many protected coves... I'm just on the fence on making the long drive north if it will not be worth it. Anyone with more experience with this area have any thoughts? Thank you!- Corey

If you have anything similar to this I am willing to modify my specs. Please shoot me a PM. The sooner the better as I would like to...
