Best gloves for pole spearing?
I've had my fair share of crappy gloves that end up leaving their grips on the spear, I'm going to get a poseidon spear after Christmas and since I'm getting a good spear I wasn't sure what kind of good gloves would be the best for spearing?
Thanks Cole |
Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Those gloves with the blue rubber and cotton backs you can buy at hardware stores or walmart. Only gloves I really use anymore.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
I use the black ones now as the blue ones seem to melt and get on everything after few months.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
I have always preferred the orange lobster gloves....They gave me great grip.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Unfortunately the blue ones have had tendency to melt all over my spear and boat. Which black ones were you referring to Ryfish ?

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Home Depot sells nitrile dipped gloves for $1.99 that are rated for hypodermic needles (allegedly). They have a great tackiness to them that really grips well on the spear.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Target sells some gloves made by rapala that have a really nice tackiness to them. I haven't used them with a PS, but I plan to use them with my gun.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
I know this is an old thread but I seem to run through gloves waaaay too fast when I go polespearing. The grip simply falls off on the gloves I have (and yes, I load my pole spears quite powerfully so the grip is often under alot of strain). The most recent ones I had were the hammerhead and ocean rhino gloves which seem to be the same model. They only survived like 3 dives each before the grip started deteriorating.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Carl |
Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
I tried a pair of dipped gloves and they fell apart after a couple times too. I do have a pair of atlas dipped gloved that I've yet to try. They are about the best ones out there, but I was using them for stone masonry work, not pole spearing. I'll try them out and check in here. I'm using a Crist pole spear and a Neritic lion fish spear.
I also have a pair of gloves from hex skin that work nice, but they slide on smooth aluminum, so not the best unless you've got a grooved, knurled or taped grip. |
Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
I use madgrip gloves from Home Depot or Amazon. They are work gloves with a thicker rubber coating than the nitrile dipped. I didn't like the cheaper ones because of the glue problems stated above. They will last about a year before the nicks and cuts from lobster and fish wear them out. $15-$20 depending on where you find them.

Hammerhead has red rubber coated and black non-coated dyneema gloves. Best I've found in years.

Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Think about Memphis gloves, here are two examples in link, Memphis gloves get re-branded with fancy names for added cost.
They have many choices and pretty good descriptions so you know what you are buying and videos. The Ninja BNF Gloves are $3 a pair, Have a few pairs, if you trash them, just use a new pair... http://www.fullsource.com/dyneema-gl...emphis-n96793/ http://www.fullsource.com/dyneema-gl...loves-9672dts/ |
Re: Best gloves for pole spearing?
Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna try those thicker madgrip gloves from home depot and perhaps a pair of the memphis gloves. Will let you know how they hold up after a few dives.
