А fling to the classics

Hi,guys, some weeks ago I found an old mold that I made years ago for a Croation spearfishing competitor and I desided to give it a chance with some inovations. I integrated a water balast chambre inside,so on the surface the gun is light, but in sea it fills with water getting the needed balance and stable mass. There is also a new system for precise aditional balance according to the shaft.
Superreverce trigger and the lowest possible offset for it are a good combination for me.Weight is arround 2,5 kilos with empty chambre. Shaft is 160 by 8,5,bands are 3 by 14 mm,I put Primeline small Id, but there are verry cool Sigalsub bands in brown color, wich I think are better,I just have now only 19mm from them.
This flirt reminded me how much easyer is to build a normal gun than a roller, but I still prefer the comfort shooting of my best roller friend;)

Best way to upload pictures is to join one of the free picture hosting sites like Photobucket. You put your pictures there and then when you go to the picture ... you chose "Direct Link" and that copies the link to the picture. Then on the forum here when you are posting, just press on the picture icon (looks like mountains with a sun ... or the icon just before the last icon on right) then delete any writing that is there after you press the icon and press paste.

Great looking gun as always, Seal.

In terms of image hosting, I changed from photobucket to Imgur, coz photobucket is often so slow it's almost unusable for me.

You make beautiful guns. Can i ask a question regarding carbon construction technique?

C4 marketing makes a big deal of no joint construction and it looks like you do something similar? I've looked around the net but haven't found the methods detailed anywhere.

Do you do it or know how it is done? If there's no joints how do they get the molds out of the center of the carbon?

Re: А fling to the classics

C4 are one of the first who started making carbon guns in the past, when there was only pipes with sticked plastic handle in it.So they called the monolite carbon body No-joint construction regarding that muzzle and handle are fixed parts of the body.
Of cource monoscoque guns as italians call them consist of molded part sticked together.C4 are good quality regarding the carbon but they are hollow and I had once to repair one sunken.Anyway I must say that they inspired me a lot in the past, like many other good manifacturers.I never tried to copy somebody, but to develop good ideas and aviod others mistakes.
My guns also consist of molded parts wich are conected from the inside by crossed layers of fibre injected with resin and pressure. This practicly makes the composite No-joint in that sence. And I inject a special foam core, wich is lite and strog after curing.
Now I improove the technology using vacuum resin infusion, instead of the wet layup. This requires verry precise molds and its pain in the ass to isolate the packages, but the qality of carbon is better, same as I make the fin blades

Re: А fling to the classics

You should try using CF sleeves. They are much easier to work with and give a perfect seamless finish with maybe 1/10 the work required ... and are much stronger than normal cloth layup. If using sleeves I think you can build 5 guns with the time it takes to build 1 gun. Also almost zero sanding required ... sanding CF on a long term basis really needs some very sophisticated equipment to make sure that the dust is handled properly. I always try and avoid sanding CF as much as possible and if I do, I try my best to use grit no finer than 120 and do it under running water if possible.

Re: А fling to the classics

I think Seal is doing better than sleeves, as once you start doing resin infusion you are already at the next level in terms of resin to fiber ratio control. Going from wet layup to infusion is a big step up. He is using female molds so unless he starts using a male bladder, there won't be a way for him to use sleeves. Sleeves are great and easy for hand lay up but makes less sense in molds.
I also don't think you need to sand much if your molds are good and you resin infusion setup is even better (you can't really have any leaks at all with infusion, whereas with a vac bag, you can get away with small leaks).
I do have an idea on how to use sleeves with infusion and no molds, but it's more advanced/complicated in other ways. If I work out the procedure I'll post about it then.

Seal, have you checked out the MTI hose for infusion? It gets very good reviews.
