Small id bands dyneema knots popping out
As the title says, I’ve had some pretty bad luck w the small id bands; basically 1:2 of the times, the dyneema knot pops out. I’m pretty certain it’s not the constrictor knot, as I’ve been doing the same double constrictor for years and reviewed other vids online too. Never had similar problem w/conventional rubber. I use the regular double overhand knots, and tried to triple it but then it becomes impossible to pass them through the tiny holes !
Any idea/solution to this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How thick is the line you’re using? I was using 1.9mm stiff dyneema tied in a overhand knot and never had any issues. Got tired of making them so I’ve since switched over to the plastic inserts that Petros sells. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Small id bands dyneema knots popping out
That’s crazy. I never had an issue doing it that way and i cut em to 380-400% i would just try doubling it up and then put a drop of shampoo on the hole so it goes in easier. Don’t use any silicone or anything like that as it won’t dry and then you could run into a pull out issue. FYI those plastic inserts work really well!

Thanks, I’ll try that today. I’ve been putting a drop or 2 of marine grease in order to insert them, maybe that’s the problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Definitely the problem there! Also that grease doesn’t like latex either. It will degrade it quickly!

just a few drops of diluted soap...

I just wet the knot in the mouth and it pops right inside the small ID band without a struggle. Never had one slip either.
This year I’m going for a insert though, my gun eat wishbone dyneema like the Cookie Monster eat cookies, and I want to be able to replace the line easier than re-tying the bands all the time. |
Re: Small id bands dyneema knots popping out
I use water as a lubricant. Dip the wishbone knot in the water, dip the rubber in the water and jam it in. Alcohol and soap both dry out rubber and cause premature degradation. Silicon never dries and stays slippery forever. BTW, I double the line and tie a double overhand knot when using 1.8-9mm dynema...makes a larger knot. Just trim the excess.

Those are the type of knots / loops I’ve been using. 50:50 chance of having them slip through ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Small id bands dyneema knots popping out
I second the plastic inserts that Brandon mentioned. They are so quick to insert. There is no need for any tools. Just place the plastic insert pointy end up on the workbench, lube or wet the small id band material and push it down hard on the insert. Tie your constrictors and your done. It is easy to replace wishbones and the inserts are reuseable.

I've had good luck with a drop of epoxy on the knot to be inserted (when I don't have inserts)or the inserts ..
