Re: Trip report! Triton X 2016 Oregon represent (part 2)

Awesome report Josh! It's been too long since I've been to Mendocino; thanks for the detailed vicarious experience. Sounds like an episodically wild ride.

Definitely put me on the mailing list for...

Re: Excellent Labor Day Weekend

It was 12-20' of vis if that's what you're referring to. My dives were mostly in the 15-30' range. I pulled some bigger scallops out deeper.

Tom the "minnowzone" in question did get measured....

Excellent Labor Day Weekend

Like the the Blues Brothers said, "we're getting the band back together!". Last weekend was a fantastic gathering with good/new friends and epic diving conditions. Special thanks from me going out to...

Re: PNW tips thread...

Look, I understand everyone is gun-shy about the diving in kelp issue considering recent events (which are very tragic).

But to say desirable fish aren't located under heavy kelp mats is simply...

Re: Seaside Oregon shark looks to be a great white

Salmon shark by the pics.

Alan Holyoak is a marine biologist from BYU Idaho, but he's an invert guy:

Why not give the little guy a chance I say?

Re: True confession, and the water looks great!

Next time I read a post like this Tom, I expect it to be titled

"True confession:how I forgot my spear gun on purpose so I could hunt ling with my bare hands and teeth. Oh, and the vis stunk but...

Re: Where can a guy get a 8" ab gage

Just go to the hardware store and get some rod stock that has good rigidity (1/8" or so). Galvanized is cheap. Bent caliber arms to 8" in your bench vise. No big deal. Make 2-3 that are spot on and...

Re: Tolovana Massacre

I often find large cabs have a whitish color. I'm guessing some lose pigment as they age. Or maybe a shift in diet. I find the larger ones typically are a dull gray with white splotches (to varying...

Re: Looking to dive near brookings, Or

Listen to the man, he knows his stuff. Don't expect anything like the sonoma-medo you're familiar with.

Re: Oregon Rockfish Regulation Changes

My qualitative assessment would say there are plenty of fish in OR.

However, stock management decisions (at least in large part from what I can tell) are being made based on theoretical stock #s...

Re: Thanksgiving Trip to Neah Bay. Part 1: Unexpected Storm

Well formed, dramatic prose. Sounds like quite the hairy ride. Glad you and your buddy are still here to entertain us with it. Thank goodness for dive/kayak partners. Sounds like he kept your bacon...

SHHHHHHHH! I'm trying to build my street cred for the California section :D.

To add to what Josh said- I would consider Oregon ocean diving similar to Norcal in species available to take....

Re: Tolovana 10/3

That vis is close to the best I've ever seen there. Rare to see SUPers out that far. Nice reminder to always look toward your exit when ascending! Yak fishing is also common there.

Nice ling Tom,...

Re: Norcal ab dive

MAJOR hostility. I believe I speak for all that the California section drama is unwanted here.

You do not know the details involved. Perhaps you'd like to inquire before jumping to conclusions?...
