Been flat on the surface with big tides on the full moon. Vis has been ranging from 40ft and hazy on the low tide to 80+ on the high/incoming tide. Good top to bottom vis too out to 60 feet. This...

Re: The edge

We do it from time to time. In Islamorada the reef drops from 50-60 down to 75-105 depending on where you are. Tons of fish roam that ledge. You can chum bottom fish up, you can run a flasher rig,...

Re: Source of Bulk Colored Rubber

It is possible to order 50ft at a time but not only black and Amber. They require 1000ft order for color runs.

Re: Evolve or Gatku

I've got the 8'er from Gat-ku and really like it. It tracks well and penetrates even better. I use the cable sliptip on the business end. Make sure you get the G string...I load it at the surface...

Re: Small id bands dyneema knots popping out

I use water as a lubricant. Dip the wishbone knot in the water, dip the rubber in the water and jam it in. Alcohol and soap both dry out rubber and cause premature degradation. Silicon never dries...

Re: Cubera hunting

I usually see them in +50 feet down here but I've seen some huge ones on wrecks over 180 feet. They seem to be pretty solitary animals. I say that because I seldom see more than 1 on a wreck or...

Re: Great white shark named George stalks Everglade waters

Murky vis coupled with abundant fish supply...no brainer. Manatees and alligators are all over the shoreline and tributaries.

Re: Spearing Lionfish in the Keys?

You are correct about the word harvest. REEF and FKMS can give you a course on harvesting lionfish inside the SPAS and other no - take zones. You can ONLY use nets and slurp guns in areas where...

Re: Gun build questions

Good luck on your build Wyatt. I know that the Neptonics reverse mech will fit a 9/32 and 5/16 shaft. If you are building an enclosed track you can bore the track 3/8 inch deep and it will line up...

Re: Florida Keys Optimistic About Hurricane Recovery, Set to Reopen October 1st

If you are pondering coming down to the Keys or going elsewhere I'd like to suggest the Keys. I've got a small shop specializing in spearfishing gear and we need customers to survive. Yes, things...

Re: Spearing Lionfish in the Keys?

We participate in all of the local lionfish derby and I'm a very active member of REEF and the dive community. The Park doesn't give out permits to spear lionfish, neither does the FK Marine...

Re: Spearing Lionfish in the Keys?

There are basically three zones in regards to spearfishing in the keys (including lionfish)...no spearing w/in 6 miles of shore north of Rodriguez Key, no spearing w/in three miles from Rodriguez Key...

Re: Question On Lookdowns

I've never eaten them but if anyone wants to give away sheepshead, I'll take them. They are big boned and a little more difficult to filet but they taste great.

Re: General question - depths lower keys

As the water heats up the grouper tend to move deeper and deeper. If you are freediving you will find them on the outer reef...40-90 feet. If you are going scuba then I would suggest looking in 70...

Re: Current Vis Islamorada 73MM - Key Largo 106MM

Was out again this weekend and had 60 to 80 foot vis near the Fingers in 50-60ft of water. We now have a S-SW wind that is over 20 kts and gusting to 30 kts (depending on the storm cells) so the vis...

Re: Mako predator pro 70cm needs more power!
