Re: 14 or 14,5mm bands for 100-105 cm spears?

The thin line I use is Head Fibergel line. I bought a 1000 foot roll some years back and it still hasn't finished. It is around 1.2 to 1.3mm and feels very much like mono and I just crimp it...

Re: 14 or 14,5mm bands for 100-105 cm spears?

The smallest gun I have thoroughly tested and worked on would be 82cm. It was pretty amazing how much power I was able to get out of that package while still keeping absolute accuracy. I actually...

Re: Crimping stiff spectra

Actually the main advantage for crimping spectra rather than tying a knot is to increase the breaking strength of the line. Spectra and Dyneema suffer a large drop in breaking strength when a knot...

Re: What happened to IMPALER SPEARGUNS

I followed the progress of Jason's guns from the first gun to his latest and he had made huge progress. I did interact with him on messages and I can easily see how he would be enthusiastic about...

Re: Why do we open the end of an enclosed track?

The end of an ET is usually open to allow easier shaft insertion when loading a shaft. At least that is the reason I used to do it. Today an ET is not necessary performance wise except for a few...

Re: Thread Insert for Wood

Actually that sounds like a great idea! I like the Teflon tape and I guess you could also add some extra teflon tape to make sure you had a snug fit everytime you removed and put the screws back in....

Re: Crimping stiff spectra

I actually just use the simply loop without extra loop to stop the line from slipping. I can only remember one time where the knot slipped and that was with a giant cobia that I hit a little too far...

Re: Trigger safeties: To have or not to have

Actually Ermessub triggers do have a safety adapted to that extra hole. I have never personally tried it but I have seen it on the website. Last few weeks I have been playing around with the idea...

Re: Crimping stiff spectra

All the feedback for crimping stiff spectra has been very positive. Personally I can't even imagine going back to tying spectra … crimping is much easier and gives you a higher breakage knot...

Re: Thread Insert for Wood

I fully agree with GR regarding these inserts. If you drill a pilot hole into wood and use an epoxy mix to screw your screw in the wood … you have a very strong connection that will never rot out...

Re: Thread Insert for Wood

These are available in 316 SS from several sources … but they cost quite a lot. Ermessub sells 316 inserts that are smooth walled … as is those things don't work. But if you run the outside walls...

Re: Trigger Mechanism Design Rules

The Abbiller guns are perfect if used as setup by factory. I have bought and owned over 20 Abbiller guns and I have one Teak Ltd. 60" that has more fish caught with it than all of my other guns...

Re: Neptonics UHMW Enclosed Track inserts

By the way, I really think that there are very few reasons to have an enclosed track today. It simply is not necessary for the many reasons ET were used before. Maybe if you like to free shaft, or...

Re: Neptonics UHMW Enclosed Track inserts

I think UHMW tracks actually have a better friction coefficient than epoxy track. But installing them has to be done correctly. The track should be on loosely so that you should be easily able to...

Re: Trigger Mechanism Design Rules

Steel wishbone should only be used as the last band in a loading process … they simply are way too dangerous to use them on forward bands. They can easily break your finger if they slip … or worse …...

Re: Trigger Mechanism Design Rules

If your mono is slipping, you could tighten the line release screw and this will prevent the line release from moving forward and mono slipping. Of course the more you tighten the screw the more...

Re: Trigger Mechanism Design Rules

I would remove the torsion spring on the Line Release, it fixes one problem but causes many worse problems. This torsion spring was added to make it easier to auto reset as it pushes the line...

Re: Pink / Purple fusion roller

Very nice indeed! And thanks for posting that video as it shows the importance of not allowing shaft tail to be flipped and causing shaft nose down and low shooting. I think anyone building a...

Re: Trigger Mechanism Design Rules

That is not correct at all! All Ermessub Line Releases are dependent on shaft sear and trigger sear interaction and have nothing to do with shaft tang length. The interaction of Line Release is...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

For a single band 7mm pipegun I wouldn't put in an ermessub DR trigger. Just use it as is with the plastic trigger. With the plastic trigger you can actually take it apart and there is one area...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

Actually a pipe gun is basically putting 3 parts together to form a speargun. In many cases the parts are interchangeable via brands. The Pathos gun works well because design wise it is good as it...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

I just checked on Diveinn and they don't have the D1 guns on sale anymore. But you can get a 90cm gun with the D2 handle and more expensive Stainless Steel trigger for around $155 here

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

I just got a bunch of the Hero guns to try out. They have a new one which is Hero Storm I think the same but Blue Camo color. I took apart the trigger and it looks much improved over the Salvimar...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

You obviously have not shot your speargun in a pool and I think in one pool session you will learn more about your speargun than you did in your entire lifetime shooting fish. I have witnessed many...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

If you want the best deal on a 90cm gun just get the Pathos Pro (aluminium) with the Dangelo 1 handle. You don't need to mod anything and it will shoot well as is. Of course you can improve...
