Re: Have you had back surgery?

I had a decompressive lumbar lamanicty (SP) back in May 06. Felt absolutely great for a couple of months, then things slowly degenerated to back pains. It got so bad I couldn't get out of the water...

Re: Spearfishing from beach in Destin?

There is a jetty on both sides of the Destin Pass. The east jetty often has skin and scuba divers around it, but, it is not legal to spearfish around it. Sounds like you need to get hooked up with...

Re: Spearfishing from beach in Destin?

It is a long (LONG) way from the beach to either natural or artificial reefs anywhere along the Emerald Coast. Seriously think you should consider using the charter boats. You need to check with...

Re: Anyone for destin spearfishing Saturday

Today's news paper finally acknowledged that we have red tide in the Gulf off Destin. We were trying to dive on 9 Oct but the vis, dead fish, and head aches were not pleasant. I'm not going to tell...

Re: Anyone for destin spearfishing Saturday

Suggest you check on the Red Tide before you go out (reference 9 Oct dive reports on the ECREEF web site). It was almost zero vis, dead and dieing fish everywhere, head aches and coughing, not what...

Re: Destin boat ramps?

aue-mike,
Joe's Bayou has probably the best launch area with good parking. Hotels in Destin are a dime-a-dozen but very few are inexpensive or even a good deal. Resturants are all over the place. ...

Re: Armed and Dangerous!!!!

Years ago I fired my 48" Sea Hornet on land, with the string off, in an arc just to see how far it would go. It took me awhile to find it but when I did it was well over 100 yards from where I fired...

Re: 12 gauge bang stick

12 Ga shells are VERY effective (probably an overkill) but also very difficult to waterproof. The powerhead is so big and heavy it reduces your range considerably. If you hit something solid, like...

Re: Riffe Parts Problem

FlorFreeDiver,
Basicly Jill told me what the spacers were for and sent a picture of the trigger mechanism showing them in position. (check PM) Don't know if they have any cheat sheets but I suggest...

Re: Riffe Parts Problem

Thanks for the info, which was correct, but I lacked patience. Jill Riffe answered my e-mail about 20 minutes after I posted with the answer, pictures, etc.

Riffe Parts Problem

I sent the following e-mail to Riffe a few days ago and have not received a reply. Can any of you help me?

In the process of re-oiling the teak, I took the handle off a friends 3X Riffe. I...

Re: Flounder Questions

Mikerotch,
Wrote up a nice reply - then my computer crashed. Short version was: Went out of Destin today. Medium to poor vis, bottom water temp at 71/72, flounder all over the sand near structure,...

Re: rope expert needed

riplipper,
It really isn't difficult but some experience helps. It will take more than a couple of pictures to show what needs to be done - a video would help. Simplest answer is (1) go to the...

Re: Powerheads, who carries them and who doesn't

I always carry a commercial .357 modified to be a slip-on. The only time I have used it was when four big, heavy Bulls, two over 8' and two at least 6', and me were all within the area of a small...

Re: Bought a gun and a few things at the flea market.... help?

Moving Target,
That was quite a haul for $40. The gun looks like it is teak. The rest of the gear seems in reasonably good condition. Use teak oil and it should look great when you finish.

Re: Probably buying a boat, need help on accessories

rtp,
I agree with Junior! Roll control is a good product and should be considerably cheaper than leisure-pro. The electronics may just have been removed for security, but if you have to buy new,...

Re: Gulf Council votes on permanent rules

I was able to attend that meeting today. Denny gave a good presentation requesting status-quo, with no closed season, and backed it up with good data. My opinion is that half a day was wasted with...

Re: Destin Conditions?

Paul,
Dive shops quoted me 15 to 30' vis this morning. Seas were less than 1' today so I checked it out. Didn't go far off-shore, 6 to 8 miles out of the pass, but where I went had good flounder...
